ITT Interconnect Solutions' CFast cover sets protect ultrasonic welds. Each set is made up of a plastic frame molded around the cover and oriented in position with guideposts, which the maker says simplify assembly. Once assembled, the covers are ultrasonically welded together with a continuous weld joint around the card's perimeter.

"The compact flash connectors and cover sets were designed specifically to support CFast's latest small form factor removable storage standard wet forth by the Compact Flash Association [CFA]," said Keith Teichmann, director of marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions. "The innovative design and packaging of the connectors and cover sets also result in the most rigid CFast products in the industry and allows OEMs to streamline their manufacturing processes to deliver cost-effective solutions in minimum production times."

The cover sets and 24-way connectors are available in either Type I or Type II packages. The surface-mount connectors are rated at 1.5A per pin and designed to exhibit no discontinuity greater than 100ns, ITT says. Total mating force is 28.8N maximum at 25-mm/minute, and total unmating force is 3.7N minimum, 24.5 maximum at 25mm/minute. The connectors and cover sets are rated to 10,000 mating cycles. The operating temperature ranges from -55 to +85 degrees C.

Typical pricing starts at $0.71 for the top and bottom covers, and $1.37 for the connectors in quantities of 100K pieces. Lead time is from 4 to 6 weeks.
