Solectron Acquires Companies
MILPITAS, Calif. and SINGAPORE Solectron Corp. and Centennial Technologies Inc. (Wilmington, Mass.) have entered into a merger agreement for Solectron to acquire Centennial. Solectron will acquire design and manufacturing capabilities, including memory card solutions for markets such as telecommunications, mobile computing and medical. Solectron is also now the controlling shareholder of NatSteel Electronics Ltd. (Singapore), which provides PCB assemblies, box-build capabilities and manufacturing services such as design, prototyping, testing and logistics.
Flextronics and Ericsson Make Announcement
SINGAPORE In restructuring its global cellular phone business, Ericsson announced Flextronics will manage its supply chain on a global basis, including the use of Flextronics' produced PCBs and plastics; manufacture mobile phones designed by Ericsson; and be responsible for new product introduction of Ericsson-designed mobile phones.
Jabil and Marconi Enter into Deal
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Jabil Circuit Inc. and Marconi plc (Pittsburgh) have an agreement that includes the divestiture of certain Marconi Communications' manufacturing operations to Jabil. Jabil will provide Marconi with manufacturing services including PCB assembly and repair services.
BTC Appoints Vice President of Sales
RALEIGH, N.C. BTC Electronic Components has named Jonette Wylie as Vice President of Sales. Wylie joins BTC with over 20 years' sales management experience. BTC specializes in commercial and military interconnect products.
Richardson to Distribute Radiall's Devices
LaFOX, Ill. Richardson Electronics Ltd. has expanded its franchise agreement with Radiall SA (Paris) to include North America. Radiall manufactures interconnect products and components, including coaxial connectors and cable assemblies, fiber optic components and multipin connectors for the telecommunications, military and aerospace markets.
Avnet Makes Announcements
PHOENIX Avnet Computer Marketing (CM), part of Avnet Inc., has appointed George Smith as President, Avnet CM, Europe. An Avnet veteran of over 22 years, Smith has held several executive management positions, most recently as President of Avnet Electronics Marketing, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Axel Hartstang has been named to that position.
