C&K Components has developed a range of smart card connectors that provide PCI and PCI-ready security features.  The PCI-ready connectors feature a special design to ease the integration of security devices around and below the connector, says the company. The PCI security connectors also offer additional accessories that are integrated on the connector in order to prevent unauthorized access to the data contacts and to detect any connection attempt.

The connectors are intended for use in transaction, and POS (point-of-sale) applications.

The CCM01 and CCM02 Series devices feature a sealed, normally-open card detection switch and a card guide with a chamfered opening in the card entry slot to improve the card guidance. Maximum card insertion force is 40N and contact force ranges from 0.20N to 0.5N. Minimum (EMV compatible) mechanical life for the 8-contact and PCI ready CCM01 Series connector is 500,000 cycles. The 8-contact and PCI ready CCM02 Series connector also features an anti-piracy system to provide a PCI variant and has a minimum mechanical life of 500,000 cycles.

In addition, the smart card connectors are RoHs, feature high-temperature thermoplastics and are compatible with automatic pick-and-place equipment and lead free SMT reflow soldering process. Typical pricing for the smart card connectors range from $0.40 to $6.00 each depending on type and quantity.

"C&K Components' security connectors provide a safe, secure and reliable connectivity that ensures the protection of sensitive and private information," said Rodolphe Gie, product manager for C&K Components.  "The security features are only one aspect of the enhanced smart card connector family, as our contact systems are designed to maximize electrical performance, flexibility and reliability, while minimizing the electrical contact resistance and overall cost."
