Industrial Connectors

The Quickon Connection System for M12 plugs and sockets is said to make installing actuators and other system components for automation technology simpler, faster and less expensive; it reportedly requires no special tools to make the connection. The connectors are designed for PVC- and PE-insulated conductors (22 to 18 AWG). They meet IP67 requirements, reportedly making them usable for rough industrial environments. Ceramic Ferrule FC-PC and FC-APC Polarization-maintaining Cable Assemblies are designed for telecommunications, medical and military applications. The assemblies use a stressed optical fiber and a tunable connector to reportedly control the alignment of lightwaves traveling down the optical path. Polarization-maintaining connectors differ in that the ferrule can be rotated around the axis of the fiber during assembly. Power Connection System

Power Connection System products offer various contact variants, termination styles and accessories. Various options are available, including size 12 contacts that are capable of supporting 40 A per contact and that are hot-pluggable to 25 A per contact at 250 VAC. The three-contact variant of the system is said to be suitable as an AC/DC input connector. Contact variants with seven or 11 high-current power contacts can be made available. Waterproof Connectors

The Multipin Waterproof Connector System is said to be corrosion- and dustproof and not harmed by moisture, corrosives, oils, gasoline, or extreme heat and cold. When mated, the connectors are reported to be vibration-resistant and fully crushproof, supposedly even when run over. They are available with up to 20 contacts from 1 to 1,200 A, and from 12 to 5,000 V. Suitable applications include marine, automotive, medical and factory/plant floors. Duraline, a division of J.B. I/O Interface Module

This DIN rail-mountable, D-subminiature Connector I/O Interface Module is available with pluggable terminal blocks and either male (plug) or female (receptacle) D-sub connectors. In standard nine- to 50-position D-sub configurations, the module is said to mount on a DIN rail or directly onto a panel. Wire Assemblies

Small Gauge Wire Assemblies feature 32, 30, 28 or 26 gauge wires with insulation such as PTFE, PVC or polyolefin and multiple strands within a given gauge for added flexibility. Manufactured using fully automated cut, strip, terminate and tin-dip process equipment, the products can be terminated with spacing of 1 to 3 mm. Submillimeter Ultra-fine-pitch Interfaces on 0.40 mm (0.1570"), 0.50 mm (0.0197"), 0.635 mm (0.0250") and 0.80 mm (0.0315") pitch are said to provide space and cost savings, along with the performance features of traditional blade-and-beam construction. Various designs and options are offered with these interfaces, including the BTF/BSF Series with up to 80 I/Os and a mated height of 5.00 mm (0.197") and the BTH/BSH Series with up to 360 I/Os in 7.49 mm (0.295") X 96.34 mm (3.793") area on PCB space. Rectangular Connectors

The 72 Series Multipole Rectangular Connectors are reportedly equipped with high-voltage capacity and safety features. Because male and female pins are recessed and enclosed, the shrouded contacts are said to offer modular pluggability with touch safety. High amperage and hybrid types are also available. Wire diameters range from 12 to 2 AWG, depending on the combination. Applications include materials handling, data networking, and transportation. Wieland Electric Inc., Burgaw, N.C.

High-density Connector

The CARL (Circuit Aligning Restraining Locking System) Connector is said to eliminate the limitations associated with surface-mount connectors. The high-density product interconnects flexible printed circuits or flat flexible cables to a matting pad on a PCB. The self-aligning connector reportedly does not require a mating connector or soldering on a PCB. It uses a clamp pressure system for gastight connections and is suited for controlled impedance applications. Miraco Inc., Manchester, N.H.

IDC DIN Connectors

C-Series Connectors are IDC female C and 1/2 C DIN connectors for use with 32 and 64 wire ribbon cable. The 96-pin, type C package, flat cable connectors are suitable in conjunction with connector shrouds mounted on the wire wrap pins of VME backplane C-series connectors. The 96-pin connector has row a and c loaded for a total of 64 signal pins and the 1/2 C connector has row a and c loaded for a total of 32 signal pins. Ethernet Cable

This Ethernet Structured Cabling System is said to be rugged enough for harsh environments. The system uses end-to-end Category 5e structured cabling featuring a completely sealed (IEC IP67) RJ-45 connection. It reportedly provides a safe, secure and cost-effective network system to transfer factory floor data to the office environment. Socket Block

The BLDZ 3.5/6F twin connection socket block with T-shaped twin connections is said to permit the separate connection of two conductors to a single contact point. It is offered in a six-pole version with 12-wire connections, mates with SL 3.5 standard headers, and is available in orange. With UL ratings of 300 V, 10 A, the unit accepts wire sizes 28 to 14 AWG. Small Form-factor Optical Transceivers for ATM OC-48 applications run at data rates up to 2.488 Gbps. They are said to be compatible with the industry-standard LC fiber optic interface, and offer double the port density of conventional SC optical transceivers. Four versions are available featuring TTL signal detect output and transmitter disable input. Fiber Optic Cable

GX-Series Subgrouping Fiber Optic Cable is double-jacketed to provide chemical resistance in harsh industrial environments. The product reportedly will not degrade over continuous long-term exposure to volatile chemicals. It consists of an inner cable jacket of PVC and an outer fluoropolymer cable jacket, and is available as UL-listed OFNR riser or OFNP plenum indoor/outdoor cable. The fiber count is said to range from two to 144 optical fibers within a single cable jacket. Optical Cable Corp., Roanoke, Va.

Blind-mate Connector

The Blind-mate Micro-Fit 3.0 BMI Connector is said to have a funnel-shaped entry that helps guide the mating receptacle for faster and easier assembly. Designed for 0.062{" panels, this wire-to-wire connector system is suitable for power supplies in PCs, servers and routers; fan tray assemblies in PCs; and backplanes. It can carry up to 5 A of current per circuit, and its dual-row plugs and receptacles are available with four to 24 circuits. Molex Inc., Lisle, Ill.

QFP Adapters

QFP Prototyping Adapters provide a 40- or 44-pin DIP, PQFP or TQFP test socket and plug into a solder-down, 44-pin QFP foot. This is said to facilitate plugging in an emulator or testing device on a prototype. They are available for a range of devices or as custom-configurable adapters with wire wrap posts. The Har-pak Mini-coaxial Connector System uses backplane wiring techniques used in the telecommunications market. The high-density, modular system can accommodate a variety of cable assemblies, such as SMA, SMB and type N. The straight and angled connectors feature blind-mating board-to-backplane RF connection and are pressfit with flat rock tooling, as well as board-to-cable RF interconnection and float-plate solutions for blind mating of heavy subassemblies. They offer two to 10 coaxial lines per module. Harting Inc., Elgin, Ill.

Six-position Connector

The Six-position AMP-DUAC Connector is a post and receptacle, wire-to-board or wire-to-wire system on 4.2 mm centerlines. An anti-overstress contact design is said to prevent overstressing of the contact interface during mating. Connector housings accept contact insertion from two directions and a positive latching feature on receptacle housings prevents disconnection. Applications include interconnection between the power interface board and accessories in vending equipment, as well as power supplies, PCs and HVAC equipment. Flat Cable/Connector System

The Flat-cable-and-connector System is reportedly suitable for a range of low-voltage DC power and low-voltage, low-frequency AC signal distribution applications. The products are available with conductors ranging from 28 to 18 AWG, with conductor pitches ranging from 2.0 to 6.4 mm or wider. Maximum operating voltage is 250 VAC and dielectric strength is 1,500 VAC. A manufacturing method is used by which the conductors are not glued; the insulation can be stripped off with mechanical or thermal strippers. RF Coaxial Connectors

C-Series RF Coaxial Connectors are designed for high-voltage semiconductor, wafer processing, sputtering and research applications. Features include overlapping PTFE dielectrics to provide a longer electrical leakage path, which is said to allow them to handle up to 3,000 V peak. Straight, right-angle and bulkhead configurations are available. The products meet MIL-STD-348 and MIL-C-39012 specifications, and can be made with silver or gold-plated brass, phosphor bronze or beryllium copper center conductors. Tru-Connector Corp., Peabody, Mass.

Pluggable Terminal Block

The 5.0 mm Type 349 Pluggable Terminal Block with lift system termination mates with a variety of vertical and right-angle headers. The built-in latching system is said to provide extra mounting security. The block is UL- and CSA-listed, and is designed to meet VDE requirements. Accepting a wire range from 28 to 12 AWG, it is rated to 300 V at 12 A. The product is available in circuit sizes from two to 24 poles. RIA electronic Inc., Eatontown, N.J.

BNC Cable Connectors

BNC 75 {om Cable Connectors come in push-pull and rear-twist versions. The push-pull version requires only a standard center contact crimp die after cable preparation. The screw-lock cable retention provides reported superior pull strength provided by the jacket. Accessories include color-coded boots in standard resistor and three transparent colors. Screen and jacket crimp technology is said to prevent an exposed grounding braid on cable assemblies. Neutrik USA, Lakewood, N.J.

FIR Transceiver

The ZHX2010 Fast-infrared (FIR) Transceiver reportedly reduces the number of external components required to implement short-range, high-speed IR connectivity in notebook PCs, portable printers and other information appliances. Compliant with IrDA 1.3 specifications, the product provides a current source and differential front end for improved noise rejection. Its features a surface-mount package, data rate ranges from 4.0 Mbps to 2.4 Kbps, and low power consumption of 2.0 mA at 2.7 V. ZiLog Inc., Campbell, Calif.

ZIF Connectors

Type FKZ ZIF Connectors are designed for flexible printed circuits and flexible flat cable. With a pitch of 0.5 mm (0.0197{"), the products reportedly meet the demands of audio/visual equipment, digital cameras, portable DVDs, notebook PCs and PDAs. They are available in eight, 16, 22, 26 and 32 circuits, rated at 0.5 A (AC/DC) and 50 V (AC/DC). The height is 1.8 mm (0.070{"), and width range is 3.5 mm (0.138{") for less than 25 circuits and 4.0 mm (0.157{") for larger than 26 circuits. They are available on embossed tape for mounting by automated placement machines. J.S.T. Corp., Waukegan, Ill.

Signal Check Adapters

Sunhayato Signal Check Adapters are available with and without sockets for PCB signal testing. Terminals are provided on each adapter to access signals in through hole, straight pin and right angle. The adapters come with sockets already mounted and are available with optional signal draw-out terminals. The products are available for 1.27 mm-pitch BGA packages, as well as LCC, PGA, PLCC, SOP and QFP packages with various pin counts and pitch configurations. Electronic Cable

TurboQuad Gold is a high-performance electronic cable designed for double-speed (2.125 Gbps) Fibre Channel applications. It is said to feature reduced time delay skew (1 ps per ft maximum on 21 AWG), improved crosstalk (5 percent (p-p) maximum) and improved shielding (2{mp lower than 2 Gbps Fibre Channel requirements). Performance is reported to be guaranteed by electrical testing including eye pattern analysis. The product is available in sizes 30 to 21 AWG. Madison Cable Corp., Worcester, Mass.

Panel-mount Jacks

Panel-mount Banana Jacks are reportedly compatible with industry-standard banana plugs, including digital multimeter plugs, with or without safety shrouds. The jacks are designed to assemble into 0.5{" diameter holes and are available in two styles. Model 6388 features a straight-rib body and simple press-in mounting from the front side of the panel. Model 6387 fits both 0.5{" diameter holes and 0.5 {mp 28.0"{" threaded holes. The jacks are available with five terminal options. Pomona Electronics, Pomona, Calif.

High-density Connectors

Ultra-high-density N UHD Series Connectors range in size from 1.50 x 3.75{" to 1.5 {mp 5.0{". Features include a 180{dg turn quick release, a 45-position "H" module and 0.016{" (0.4 mm) hyperboloid contacts. The connectors are available with 90, 180, 270, 360, 450 and 540 positions. They are said to be suitable for space-sensitive and high-operational use in aerospace, automatic test equipment, military, and other test and process control equipment. Miniature DIN Connectors

The KMDT Series of slim-profile, back-shielded, miniature DIN connectors reportedly provides the typical mini-DIN interface and requires only a fraction of the PCB space of a standard miniature DIN connector. The connectors come in four- and six-pin sizes to accommodate differing design requirements, and are fully shielded for EMI/RFI considerations. They are available in through-hole or surface-mount designs, with both featuring kinked ground tabs for enhanced PCB retention. Kycon Inc., San Jose, Calif.

Jumper Cables

These Braided Jumper Cable Assemblies feature soldered inner and outer conductors, injection-molded boots and factory-guaranteed specifications for a variety of indoor and outdoor wireless uses. With operating frequencies ranging to 2.4 GHz, these IP68-rated assemblies are available with BNC, SMA, TNC, type N and 7/16 connectors, in straight and right-angle configurations. Applications include cellular and PCS base stations and general indoor and outdoor wireless systems. Spinner North America, a division of Spinner GmbH, Norcross, Ga.

LC Adapters

LC Quad Adapters are designed for small form-factor applications, and are said to be fully intermatable with standard LC-licensed products and have low insertion loss and high performance. The products reportedly deliver long-term stability under a range of conditions. Also available are 740 Series LC adapters that are designed to fit SC adapter cutout footprints, which is said to significantly ease the transition from SC to LC implementation. Miniature Connectors

DS Series Sealed Mini Connectors are designed to maintain the rated electrical specifications through continuous exposure to thermal and mechanical shock for automotive sensors and vehicle electronic accessories. The connectors feature a threaded body with two to six eyelet contacts. The standard finish is tin-plated. Special contact terminations and finishes are also available. S-video Connector

The CV-TCS415PST is a panel-mount S-video (4-pin mini DIN) female-to-terminal block connector. It is said to be designed to reduce installation time, compared to solder-type connectors. The connector is mounted in a plate or panel, the cable is stripped and inserted into the terminal block, and the screw terminals are tightened down. No soldering is reportedly involved in the process. Bi-Tronics Inc., Hawthorne, N.Y.

Plastic Fiber Cable

Series 2220 Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) Cable is designed for applications that require data communications over distances of up to 100 m (330{'). The cable is supplied in a duplex configuration and is reported to feature high tensile strength, wide temperature operation and high chemical resistance. The polymethyl methacrylate fiber core is 1 mm with a 2.2 mm jacket. The product is available in lengths of 25, 50, 100, 200 or 500 m. Aftabyte Networks Corp., Pompano Beach, Fla.

Electrical Connector

The Utilco PEDL6-350 Lay-in Pedestal Connector features lay-in installation of aluminum or copper conductors. Each connector port reportedly has a removable keeper with a stop, so conductors can be easily laid into the port. The keeper then slides onto the connector and the set screws are tightened. It is clear-plated, has two holes on the back for pedestal mounting and is an ANSI 119.4 Class A connector. ILSCO, Cincinnati, Ohio

Molded Cables

EverFlex Molded Cables are reportedly compact, can be custom-shaped and prevent pinch points. They are said to be able to endure 500,000 flexes because compression and tension is distributed evenly throughout the length of wires rather than at one point. The predetermined and repeatable spacing between conductors is said to allow users to optimize impedance-matching electrical characteristics of wiring in a product. The open-weave design allows each wire to achieve direct convection cooling. Midcon Cables Co., Joplin, Mo.

S-video Connector

The QuickPort S-video Connector features a design to transmit high-quality S-video over standard Category 5, 5e or 6 UTP cabling. The 110-style IDC punchdowns on the rear of the connector are said to allow for simple, fast installation and the UTP wiring is said to allow the connector to adapt to business and educational environments the have frequent adds, moves and changes. The product size reportedly helps maintain proper bend radius, and extends the life and effectiveness of the cable and the network. Leviton Voice & Data Div., Bothell, Wash.
