Japan Aviation Electronics (JAE) has introduced a product variation of its JN1/2 Series circular connectors, used in motors, machinery, robotics, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, telecommunication devices such as base stations, measurement devices, and other applications. The new connector offers solder termination contacts as an alternative to the existing crimp contact version.

While crimp contacts require a dedicated crimping tool, the new solder termination contacts can be connected via use of commercially available soldering irons, thus allowing termination work to be done at any work site. The product can be used for repair and maintenance of parts; additionally, crimp and solder termination contacts can be selected and combined according to specific application needs, without changing the plug connector main unit.

Features of the new JN1/2 connectors include easy mating, with a push-twist, one-touch lock mechanism enabled by pushing in and removed by twisting. The environmentally rugged IP67-rated connectors are dust-proof and waterproof, as well as vibration- and oil- resistant. Both straight and angled types are available and can be set in four directions by rotating the plug in 90-degree increments.

The JN1 Series is an all-plastic lightweight circular connector and the JN2 Series connector is reinforced with metal material in part of the outer shell. Plug contacts can be selected from either crimp or solder termination types. General specifications include 10 contacts for JN1/2 connectors and 15 contacts for JN2W connectors; rated current of 3 amps per contact (#22 size contact); 200 VAC rated voltage; 900 AC vrms dielectric withstanding voltage (per minute); 1,000 mohm insulation resistance, minimum; and durability of 500 mating cycles.

Contacts can be selected from both solder and crimp types, and are sold separately.
