Infrared fiber optic cables suit military, harsh industrial environments

Feb 6, 2012

Infrared fibers and systems developer IRphotonics (Hamden, CT) announced the availability of its HE Series infrared fiber optic cables, designed to meet stringent specifications for military and industrial applications. The hermetically sealed, "fiber in metal tube" HE Series is designed to house and shield the company's iGuide Mid Infrared Fibers against severe physical (e.g., pull, bend, and crush) and extreme environmental (e.g., shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, pressure, and liquid immersion) conditions.

Cable assemblies are available in a variety of lengths, featuring a highly flexible squarelock conduit and an optional PVDF lining for enhanced protection from liquids. The company says the HE Series is particularly suited for defense and aerospace applications such as Infrared Counter Measure Systems (IRCM) that use Indium Fluoride fibers, or remote spectroscopy applications for harsh industrial environments. Cables offered with a range of optical fiber connectors.

"Damage and performance are limiting conditions that often exist in challenging environments," comments Eric Geoffrion, CEO of IRphotonics. "Our HE Series cables are designed, manufactured and tested with this in mind to ensure superior performance and durability over the life of the cable."
