Southwire launches SIMpull power cable

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The SIMpull Power Cable, a new industrial cable tray rated medium voltage power cable developed with Southwire's patented SIM Technology, is the latest addition to Southwire's family of easy-to-pull wire and cable products that require no lubrication during installation. The new cable is designed for any commercial and industrial applications, including power generation, institutional, data centers, petrochemical and wastewater facilities.

Southwire's SIM [Slikqwik Infused Membrane] technology, which the company says makes installing wire and cable faster, cleaner and safer for electrical contractors, was first introduced in residential and commercial building wire products several years ago with the Romex SIMpull cable, SIMpull THHN cable and, most recently, the SIMpull XHHW-2 cable. In addition to using SIM technology in the jacketing of the new industrial MV power cable, Southwire is also using no lead EPR insulation, giving the SIMpull Power Cable environmental and installation advantages over traditional Type MV cable, according to the company.

"After the successful release of our previous SIM Technology cables, we're proud to introduce another industry first by offering SIMpull Power Cable with no lead EPR insulation."

The new industrial cable is available in voltages from 2.4 kV to 35 kV, maintaining all electrical and physical characteristics including cable tray listing following UL 1685 requirements, along with the stringent IEEE 1202 flame rating. The jacket is sunlight resistant and uses Southwire's EFC Envirotect no lead EPR insulation, making it one of the more environmentally friendly medium voltage cables available to the industry. The cable is also available with factory installed SIMpull Head pulling grips, increasing the safety and reliability of your pulls while reducing installation time.

By reducing pulling force and improving toughness, SIM Technology makes wire pulling more consistent. The elimination of lube with the use of SIMpull Power Cable in manholes results in a safer work environment. In addition to being able to pull short lengths by hand, installers can also stop in the middle of a pull if needed. Since the initial release of SIM Technology, SIMpull cables have received numerous industry product awards as well as industry accolades for their performance.
