December 7, 2009 -- Molex Inc. has expanded its line of sealed circular connectors. The company's Extra Rugged Circular (XRC) sealed plugs and receptacles are now available in an 18-shell/14-circuit size and 24-shell/31-circuit size. The circular connectors are designed for heavy-duty applications such as construction equipment, marine, recreational vehicles, transportation, and agricultural markets.

In addition, the company notes that the 24-shell size, 31-circuit connectors have a wire seal imprinted, instead of embossed or engraved, making it easier to see and identify each circuit for faster installation and field servicing. A backshell is also available for use with the 24-shell size products. The backshells easily snap onto the XRC housing after terminal assembly for increased strain relief.

Designed to meet IP67 standards, the Molex XRC plugs and receptacles are protected against dust, water, and other contaminants to maintain the integrity of the mated pair. Plugs feature a quick-disconnect bayonet latch to provide quick and easy connections with reduced installation and service time, while ensuring accurate mating depth.

“We added to the XRC line to meet our customers’ needs and address the needs of the industrial market,” comments Molex product manager Bill Mahony. “We enhanced the rugged, sealed circular line to add even more design flexibility while still offering an economical solution.”

The XRC connector features a grommet retainer with a lip for compatibility with backshell and over-molded applications. A large polarizing key indicator aids in visual alignment to facilitate easier mating. The simple crimp-and-poke technology does not require terminal alignment when installing crimped wires, while enlarged imprinting on the wire seals clearly identifies each circuit, making installation and field servicing fast and easy.

XRC plugs and receptacles are available in standard and reverse gender. The connectors can be used for in-line or panel-mount applications.
