Type AB Connectors

Female Type AB Connectors feature five rows of signal contacts in AB19, AB22 and AB25 lengths. This style is said to provide the alignment and guide features found on the Type A modules but without the coding cavity. Spring-clamp Terminal Blocks

SCM Series Spring-clamp Terminal Blocks are reflow-compatible, high-current and suitable for wire-to-board applications on 0.2" and 5.0 mm spacing. They can withstand temperatures of 260°C during the PCB production reflow soldering process and are rated up to 20 A and 300 V. They accept solid or stranded wires in a 28 to 12 AWG range, and are molded of high-temperature, glass-filled thermoplastic. Integral lever-actuated and screwdriver-actuated versions are available. IDC/Terminal Block

The 290 Series Fit Clamp offers an IDC within a terminal block. The front-entry block is actuated by introducing a wire, inserting a screwdriver and sliding the fit clamp toward the wire. It is produced in two-, three- and four-conductor versions. The block is suitable for use with PVC-insulated conductors, 22 to 16 AWG stranded and 22 to 18 AWG solid, and is available in gray and blue, as well as green-yellow to designate ground. Industrial Cordsets

Armorfast 18 AWG Cordsets are designed for use in harsh industrial environments. They are terminated with the company's minifast connectors. The cordsets are available in 2, 4 and 6 m standard lengths, in two-, three-, four- or five-pin models, with a male or female pinout. They operate in temperatures of -20° to 90°C and are rated NEMA 1, 3, 4 and 6P and IEC IP67. An exterior jacket of yellow PVC insulation and cable jacketing covers the interlocking armor. The FiberSmart Passive Interconnect Components Family includes the STA Series of ST-compatible adapters; SCA Series of SC-compatible adapters; FC-style adapters, which are singlemode FC/PC adapters compliant with NTT-FC specifications; CSC Series SC connectors, which are available for multimode and singlemode applications; ST connectors, which are high-performance connectors for multimode and singlemode applications; and ILBR Series in-line, male-to-female, low back-reflection attenuators. Series 8520 Spring Clamp PCB Terminal Blocks are designed to provide rapid and reliable PCB connections for two to 16 wires. They feature 3.5 mm contact pitch for dense wiring applications and are available as a one-piece solderable device in horizontal or vertical wire-entry configurations, and as a pluggable connector with straight pin strips that mount to the PCB. CompactPCI Connectors

Male CompactPCI Connectors have five signal rows and are available in Type A, B, C and AB connections with optional two-ground rows. Standard and custom pin-loading configurations are available. Male pins are available in three mating levels. The housing is made of a glass-filled polyester that meets UL 94V-0 flammability ratings. They reportedly use compliant pin pressfit technology to standard pin-hole dimensions. Comm Con Connectors Inc., Duarte, Calif.

Riser Cable

Compact Riser-rated 1.6 mm Zipcord Cable is suitable for interconnect and cross-connect applications. Single- and multimode fiber is available. Features include reported easy identification of individual fibers, 900 mm, aramid yarn strength member and high flexibility. The cable is Bellcore GR-409-CORE performance-tested and UL-listed Type OFNR. It also offers a PVC outer jacket, and an operating temperature range of -20° to 70°C. Fiber Optic Connector

The UniCam QuickPress Connector is a combination two-fiber connector and adapter in one unit. It is designed with built-in prepolished endface technology. Two fiber stubs that are cleaved on one end are housed within the unit. It is said to be compatible with MT-RJ connectors and traditional tight-buffered cables, and is reverse-polarity. Users can switch the fibers between A and B position by rotating the connector. Reportedly, no special installation tools are required. Corning Cable Systems LLC, Hickory, N.C.

Adjustable Connectors

Coaxicam 3993 Phase Adjusters are designed to offer a means of phase adjustment over frequency ranges up to 18 GHz. The 3993-1 has an adjustment range of 180° minimum and a maximum VSWR and insertion loss of 1.30:1 and 0.42 dB, respectively. The 3993A is a 4.0 GHz adapter, with a maximum VSWR of 1.10:1 and an insertion loss of 0.20 dB. The 3993-2 and 3993-3 are phase-adjustable connectors with SMA plugs for 0.141 and 0.086" semirigid cable, respectively. Coaxial Components Corp., Islandia, N.Y.

Optical Transceivers

These 1 X 9 Optical Transceivers are available with maximum data rates of 1.062, 1.250 and 2.125 Gbaud per second, in a selection of short- and long-wavelength versions. They are compliant with Telecordia GR-468 specifications, and certified to TUV, UL and CSA standards. Standard packaging is in wave-solderable, industry-standard, 9.8 mm-high enclosures that are compatible with mezzanine card systems. They are furnished with a duplex SC fiber optic connector. Cable Glands

Cable Glands in European-standard PG threading, metric threading and NPT threading are available. Plastic and metal are offered, along with a metal gland that reportedly provides an easy way to ground the shield from a shielded cable to the body of the metal cable gland. Available glands include nickel-plated brass cable, EMI nickel-plated brass cable and plastic cable. Phono Jacks

Bulkhead-mount Phono (RCA) Jacks reportedly meet the most critical audio, audio/video and general-purpose electronic applications. They are offered in front- and rear-mount, solder-type and jack-to-jack bulkhead configurations. They have a plated, machined-brass construction. PCB Connectors

Amplimite Series 109 Vertical and Right-angle PCB Mount Connectors are standard-density, D-subminiature connectors that feature screw-machined contacts with multiple contact points. The low-profile design is said to provide space and weight savings. A one-piece housing made from UL 94V-0-rated material reportedly improves reliability. Logic Analyzers

These "Bug Catcher" Logic Analyzers directly interface with the high-density, high-speed, high-signal-integrity probes of the test instruments in Tektronix's line of TLA 700 series logic analyzers. These products are designed for high pin-count, 1.27 and 1.00 mm-pitch BGA devices. They are general-purpose in nature. Coaxial Cables

LLSB Series Coaxial Cables are military-qualified, low-loss and low-smoke. They have been approved to the requirements of MIL-C-17 "G" for cross-linked military coaxial cables, and also meet performance requirements of MIL-C-24640 and MIL-C-24643 for shipboard applications. Offered in sizes from 0.200 to 1.670", the cables are said to offer better electrical and shielding performance than standard RG-type shipboard and military-grade cable. IEEE 1394 Connectors/Assemblies

Typical applications for this line of IEEE 1394 PCB Connectors and Cable Assemblies include digital cameras, DVD players, computers and set-top boxes. Gold-plated contacts are standard with 30 mm of gold in the contact mating area. Six-position cable assemblies are supplied in black and are available in wire gauges 32-32, 28-22, 30-22 and 30-24. Terminal Connector

The Term-a-Nut Terminal Connector is said to eliminate crimping by combining a standard terminal with a twist-on connector to provide a connection. The connector is UL-listed for use with single or multiple conductors that can be solid, stranded or both, and that range from 22 to 12 AWG. It comes in three fork and ring sizes, #10, #8 and #6, and is designed with locking tabs to reportedly reduce vibration and pullout. Ideal Industries Inc., Sycamore, Ill.

Terminal Blocks

The Z Series of Feedthrough Terminal Blocks now has versions ZDU 4/3 AN, ZDU 4/4 AN and ZDU 6/3 AN. They reportedly provide both power distribution and supply with a single terminal. Two cross-connected ZDU 4 terminal blocks can be replaced with one ZDU 4/3 AN or ZDU 4/4 AN terminal block. A corresponding set of protective earth terminals is also available. All three versions are rated at 600 V, with current ratings of 33 or 45 A. Weidmüller Inc., Richmond, Va.

The GracePort ModBus+ "Ruggedized" Tap Convenience Interface features terminals for incoming, outgoing, device-in and device-out cables; screw terminals; compatibility with existing programming cables; industrial-strength construction; and pull-apart, gold-plated terminal blocks. It is said to eliminate the potential of "starring" the ModBus+ network, and can be used as a standalone tap, or the "tap" function can be combined into a convenience interface. RJ-45 Connectors

These 155 Series RJ-45 Connectors with ferrite filters are said to be a solution to 100Base-T signal-conditioning requirements. Filtering is done right at the base of the connector, which reportedly provides better protection by minimizing noise prior to entering the internal parts of the connector. The ferrite filters also are said to provide the benefit of controlled insertion loss and increased reliability because there are no solder joints to fail between the filter and the contacts. Mini-USB Connector

The Mini-USB Connector is said to be smaller than existing USB connectors. This five-pin (one ID pin), 0.8 mm connector provides host-to-peripheral connectivity for portable/hand-held PC architecture, cellular phones and other digital devices, such as DSCs and PDAs. It is compliant with current USB specifications and reportedly will be able to meet high-speed requirements equivalent to that of USB 2.0. Advanced-Connectek Inc., Tustin, Calif.

DIN Connector

The 64-pin G Series DIN 41612 Connector is offered in a low-profile package. The connector is rated at 6 A per pin, with an operating voltage of 125 V. It is part of a series of PowerDIN connectors, including the H15 and F 48-pin, that are slimline for mounting directly onto a backplane. Reportedly, the connector makes it possible for all female Type B, C, D, F, G and H connectors to be mounted directly to a backplane. 2E SysCom Inc., Waltham, Mass.

Fiber Optic Cable Assemblies

MTP/MTO Multimode Fiber Optic Cable Assemblies feature a "protruding fiber finish" design that reportedly eliminates air gaps between mating fibers, thus reducing signal loss and back reflection. They are designed to address signal bandwidth, signal loss and cable management challenges. Copper Fibre Channel Cable Assemblies are said to be suitable for high-speed serial data communications systems such as SANs, Fibre Channel switches, DASD and RAID mass storage systems, and other mission-critical applications. They are equipped with HSSDC, DB-9 or IX-3 connectors, and are individually tested and characterized. They are made with a shielded quad construction cable and meet ANSI X3.303-1998 Fibre Channel FC-PH-3 specifications. Matrix Connectors

Zebra Matrix Connectors have silicone rubber pads embedded with gold-plated, fine-wire conductors oriented vertically at over 5,000 per sq in and at 0.013" pitch. The connection is solderless, using only compression contact. Applications include BGAs, ICs, LCCs and PCBs at 500 mA current capacity and 250 mW resistance. Fujipoly America Corp., Kenilworth, N.J.

DIMM Connector

This 25° angled DIMM Connector reportedly enables tight stacking heights of 0.900" (22.86 mm) for typical SOJ packaging and 0.525" (13.34 mm) for TSOP packaging. Features include dual ejector latches that align modules for insertion and produce an audible click when closed, and fork locks that are said to provide good PCB retention during and after soldering. It is available with 168 circuits. A 3.3 V center voltage key and three function key options in a range of select gold-plating thicknesses are available. Molex Inc., Lisle, Ill.

IDC System

The Harax Detachable IDC System is designed primarily for heavy industrial use. It is said to provide termination components for panel feedthroughs, M8 and M12 connectors, and passive sensor/actuator boxes. Typical applications involve systems with working voltages up to 230 V and 16 A AC. The gastight connection is said to qualify for an IP67 rating. It is also intended for round cables containing a low number of strands. Harting Inc., Elgin, Ill.

Ultrasound Cable Assemblies

ModulUS3 Cable Assemblies offer a platform of pre-engineered coaxial, cable and termination options. They are designed for continuous shielding end-to-end, including connector actuation shaft, and to maintain crosstalk at less than -30 dB at 10 MHz on finished assembly. The enclosure also houses a nickel ferrite to help suppress noise in the 20 to 300 MHz range. Each assembly is a standard 2.5 m (98") in overall length. Cable Connector

This 100-position Cable Connector with die-cast backshell and dual 100-position PCB interface connector is said to bring designers greater flexibility for Ultra SCSI devices, RAID controllers, high-end servers and other applications requiring high-density, high-speed I/O connectors. It is a 0.8 mm centerline connector, and conforms to ANSI/SFF-8441 requirements for VHDCI connectors. Honda Connectors, Vernon Hills, Ill.

Miniature Terminations

Miniature 75 Ω Resistive Terminations (dummy loads) exhibit 75 Ω impedance for critical applications, with envelope dimensions conforming to the miniature size of MIL-PRF-39012 SMB Series connectors. They feature PTFE insulators, which are said to protect the center contacts from damage if they are misaligned during mating. A closed-end mating hood reportedly helps guide terminations into proper alignment during mating. They are colored red and are constructed with tempered brass bodies and beryllium copper, closed-entry, female center contacts. Applied Engineering Products (AEP), New Haven, Conn.

PCI Connector

The Peripheral Component Plug Right-angle (PCPR) Connector is designed for use in add-on cards for PCI LAN/modem applications in smaller systems such as notebook PCs, docking stations and set-top boxes. It is an SMT board connector with an ultra-low profile of 1.85 mm and contact spacing of 1.25 mm, and incorporates a blade-type contact design. It is available in two- and 14-pin versions for the internal motherboard location. Circuit Assembly Corp., Irvine, Calif.

I/O Connectors

Series DMX Connectors have a profile of 5.4 mm (0.213") and a pitch of 1.0 mm (0.039"). They are said to be suitable for I/O interconnects for high-density notebook PCs, PDAs and GPS modems. Current rating is 0.5 A at 125 V. Temperature range is -55° to 85°C. There are 26 circuits available with right-angle SMT mounting provided. EMI shielding is said to be assured.
