Hirose (ETR:HRO) has developed a 2mm pitch, multi-functional LED connector system that provides wire-to-board, board-to-board joint and short-circuit sockets in a single connector design. Designated the DF59 Series, the new connector series is positioned for the LED market, as well as for many applications that require a small connector, such as battery connections, small DC motor drives and power supplies.
"The DF59 offers system designers ultimate flexibility," comments Rick van Weezel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Hirose Electric USA. "The beauty of the system is that whichever plug is used, it mates with the same receptacle. This allows for a reduction in the number of components needed and simplified termination options."
The company says the connectors' low mated height of 2.5mm and overall size of 8 x 9 mm is ideal for bright lighting where many narrowly mounted LEDs are used. The compact size prevents the appearance of shades.
Further, the DF59 features Hirose's proprietary "swing lock," which utilizes positive and friction locks, giving wire-to-board type connections cable pull force resistance. The cable end of the plug is mated at a slight angle to engage more fully with the receptacle and the other end of the plug is pushed down to complete mating with an audible tactile click. The connector also provides stress-free contact for 0.5mm floating function in XYZ directions for greater flexibility during the installation process.
The DF59 has a 2mm pitch and is available in 2, 3 and 4 positions. It has a high current capacity of 3 Amps (with AWG 22 cable) and a high contact lance strength for wire-to-board type connections. It is also RoHS-compliant. Pricing and lead time are available upon request.
