Carlisle Acquires UniTrek
SYRACUSE, N.Y. Carlisle Co. Inc. announced that its wire, cable and cable assembly operation, Tensolite Co. (St. Augustine, Fla.), has acquired privately held UniTrek Co. (Vancouver, Washington). UniTrek is a manufacturer of RF and microwave cable assemblies and complex wire harnesses supplied to OEMs in the wireless communications, electronic test and measurement, and defense electronics markets.
Solectron Appoints Vice President
MILPITAS, Calif. Solectron Corp. announced the appointment of Kevin Whalen to vice president of corporate communications. In this newly created position, Whalen is responsible for media relations, public relations and publicity, corporate identity, crisis communications and various financial communications. Before joining Solectron, Whalen was a vice president at Shandwick International, a global public relations firm.
Flextronics and Siemens Sign Agreement
KARLSKRONA, Sweden Flextronics International Ltd. and Siemens Information and Mobile Communications Group have signed an agreement in which Flextronics will manufacture approximately 33 million mobile telephones for Siemens by the end of 2003. In addition to this outsourcing initiative, Siemens is also increasing production capacity in some of its other facilities. The Siemens plant in Shanghai, China, will double its production capacity, increasing production from 5 million units to 10 million units.
EDS Elects President
CHICAGO The Electronic Distribution Show and Conference has picked Robert Terwall, vice president of Cherry Corp. (Waukegan, Ill.) and general manager of Cherry Electrical Products (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.), as the 2001 president to lead the planning and policy making. Other officers elected include David Herring, Projections Unlimited (Tustin, Calif.), as vice president and David Rossi, Empire Technology Group LLC (Skaneateles, N.Y.), as secretary-treasurer.
Emerson & Cuming Names Distributor
BILLERICA, Mass. Emerson & Cuming, a National Starch & Chemical Co., has named K.R. Anderson (Santa Clara, Calif.) to distribute its adhesives, encapsulants and coatings. K.R. has sales coverage throughout the West Coast, with additional coverage in Mexicalli and Tijuana, Mexico.
Graybar Makes Appointments
ST. LOUIS Robert A. Reynolds has been elected president and CEO of Graybar Electric Co. He succeeds Carl L. Hall, who was elected chairman of the board. Graybar also appointed Charles R. Udell as senior vice president, Electrical Business. Udell succeeds Reynolds. Other appointments include Ronald P. Segraves as district vice president at New York; Alan L. Eddings as vice president, Comm/Data Marketing; and Rob R. Bezjak as district vice president of the South Central Comm/Data District.
BTC Announces Additions
RALEIGH, N.C. BTC Electronic Components has added Kerry Hathaway as account executive in the Apopka, Fla. sales office. Previously with PCD Inc., Kerry has over 11 years' experience in avionics and 5 years' experience in the semiconductor industry. BTC also announced the addition of Lara Cely as marketing assistant. In this newly created position, Cely will assist in implementing and executing new marketing programs and promotions.
Newark Names CTO of E-Commerce
CHICAGO Newark Electronics, part of Premier Farnell plc, has promoted Dr. James Ure to chief technology officer of E-Commerce and assistant vice president of Internet Technology and Systems. In this position, Ure will be responsible for technical architecture, development and operations of all Newark e-commerce systems.

Thomas & Betts Corp. (Memphis, Tenn.) has named John R. Mayo president and COO, a new position that reports to Clyde R. Moore, chairman and CEO. Mayo joins Thomas & Betts from FCI, where he served as president and COO of FCI USA Inc.
Ayer, Mass.-based Hybricon Corp. announced the appointment of Paul R. Freve as president. Freve assumed the position from C. Michael Hayward, founder and president for the past 22 years. Hayward will remain as CEO and chairman of the board.
Teradyne Inc. (Boston) is acquiring Herco Technology (San Diego, Calif.), a fabricator of PCBs, and Synthane Taylor (La Verne, Calif.), a supplier of PCB laminates, including to Herco. The acquisitions will be part of Teradyne's Connection Systems Div., based in Nashua, N.H.
Bothell, Wash.-based Leviton Mfg. Co. Inc. has consolidated two of its networking business units. Structured cabling manufacturer Leviton Telcom and the Leviton Fiberoptic Technologies Group have become the new Leviton Voice & Data Div., which offers integrated system solutions for copper and fiber infrastructure.
Cooper Bussmann Inc. (St. Louis) has named Steven Hogge as vice president and general manager of Cooper Electronic Technologies, a business unit of Cooper Bussmann. The unit is dedicated to electronic power conversion components and circuit protection devices for the electronics industry.
Weidmüller Inc. (Richmond, Va.) has sold its interest in connectool Inc. Located in Ashland, Va., connectool supplies products to the data communications market including cutting, crimping and stripping tools.
FCI USA Inc. and Tyco Electronics Corp. announced a licensing agreement for Tyco to manufacture FCI's PwrBlade board-to-board power connector product line. Both companies have agreed that Tyco is a second-source manufacturer of this power distribution connector system.
Stratos Lightwave Inc. (Chicago) has entered into a licensing agreement with IBM Corp. The companies have agreed to cross-license certain segments of their patent portfolios, including Stratos' patents relating to its Gigabit interface converters and small form-factor transceivers and receptacles. Stratos also announced the acquisition of additional manufacturing space adjacent to its Chicago headquarters. The 60,000 sq. ft building will be used to increase the space dedicated to manufacturing Gigabit speed optical transceivers and fiber optic products.
Loctite Corp. (Rocky Hill, Conn.) is acquiring Windsor Locks, Conn.-based Dexter Corp.'s Specialty Polymers Business. The business comprises special products for the assembly of components on PCBs and for the manufacture of electronic components as well as adhesives for specific industrial applications.
San Jose, Calif.-based Yamaichi Electronics USA Inc. has appointed Alfred Muranaga as vice president of Sales and Marketing, reporting to Shinichiro Koga, president and CEO. Muranaga joins the company from Harting Inc. of North America where he was Western regional sales manager.
Wago Corp. (Germantown, Wis.) has promoted Thomas J. Artmann to vice pres-ident of Sales and Marketing. Artmann was the national sales manager, and has over 18 years' experience in the electrical/electronics industry.
