Delta Electronics developing pan-specification electric car charging station for Taiwan's ARTC

Jul 22, 2011

The Taiwan electronics technology news organization DigiTimes is reporting that power supply equipment maker Delta Electronics (BAK:DELTA) has developed and is manufacturing an electrical car power charging station that supports all global charging specifications, including SAE in the US, IEC Type 1 in Europe, CHAdeMO in Japan, and GB in China, for Taiwan's government-sponsored Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC).

As reported by DigiTimes, "the power charging station being developed mainly consists of four alternating-current charging facilities and four direct-current ones, a central monitoring system and a power charging network management system which can provide drivers of electrical cars with the most efficient power charging planning based on power-use conditions, as well as locations and operating conditions of available power charging stations."

In addition to ARTC-specified functional requirements, the Delta design reportedly integrates in-house-developed energy-saving products, such as LED street lamps and a PV power-generating system, with the charging station to reduce power usage at the station. In addition, the total device enables the station to integrate with smart grids and energy management systems.

The station is being produced at ARTC's plant in central Taiwan and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to the company. Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs reportedly commissioned ARTC to construct the charging station, and ARTC, through an open competition process, selected Delta to undertake the construction project because Delta proposed the best total solution.
