According to reports in Area Development Online and The Wichita Eagle, Martin Interconnect Services, a Kansas-based maker of wire harnesses for manufacturing applications, is expanding in Wichita, KS. The company plans to add 37 jobs over the next five years and has purchased a new building in the city.
Martin Interconnect is investing more than $615,000 in the expansion. The privately owned, family business produces wire harnesses for manufacturers in sectors including: heavy duty specialty vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances; refuse collection trucks; mobile drill rig chassis; and airport refueling trucks; as well as automobiles, buses, boats, recreational vehicles and motorcycles.
Martin says its operation has nearly doubled in size over the past two years. The company's owners reportedly "decided to leverage the recession" to expand from a local business to a national operation.
The Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition is partly funding the growth with a forgivable loan. County Commissioners in that city will vote to approve the funds within the next few weeks.
