Premier Farnell Americas joins Green electronics recycling initiative

Apr 15, 2010

CHICAGO -- Multi-channel global electronics distributor Premier Farnell announced that its businesses in the Americas (Newark, element14, MCM, TPC Wire & Cable & Akron Brass), have joined a select group of companies and institutions known as e-Stewards Enterprises, who have committed to use electronics recyclers that meet the world’s highest standards for responsible recycling.

Premier Farnell has earned a number of accolades for its environmental program aimed at reducing energy consumption and decreasing the overall environmental impacts of its own operations. Recently, it was awarded the Carbon Trust Standard (CTS) for measuring, managing and reducing its carbon footprint for its UK-based operations and committing to further reductions year on year.

The company says it has already reduced its global carbon footprint by 20% within a period of three years. Premier Farnell is also recognized by the Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index and has already achieved Platinum status in the environment category, and Gold status for its overall commitment to Corporate Responsibility.

“We have pledged to use e-Stewards recyclers to assure that our computer-related electronic waste will be responsibly recycled, and will not be exported to developing countries,” comments Ken Manchen, Corporate Director, Safety, Health & Environment Affairs, Premier Farnell, Americas. “E-steward recyclers submit to third party verification audits, and e-steward standards are the best in the business.

The e-Stewards Recycler Certification standard ensures that recyclers will never export hazardous e-wastes to developing countries, dump them in municipal landfills or incinerators, or use prison populations as labor.
