Scapa 657 masking tape is said to protect delicate gold or rhodium finger contacts during the hot-air leveling and wavesoldering processes. Reported to provide durability and low-static characteristics, the product is a specially treated paper laminated to a polyester film and coated with a silicone adhesive that allows the tape to withstand elevated temperatures of nearly 500°F without leaking. After processing, the tape reportedly detaches from the substrate cleanly and easily, leaving no adhesive residue.
