FiberSafe 100 is a security system for monitoring fiber optic cables in communication links. The system works by transmitting a laser beam with collimated light through a multimode fiber optic cable, generating a speckle pattern at the receiving end. When the cable is disturbed, even by the smallest vibration, a sensor detects change in the pattern and triggers an alarm. Because the sensor does not depend on intensity of light, sensitivity is said to be the same along the length of the monitored cable, up to 6 km. Four alarm levels can be set to indicate degree of force used on the cable.
