Scapa 657 masking tape is said to protect delicate gold or rhodium finger contacts during the hot-air leveling and wavesoldering processes. Reported to provide durability and low-static characteristics, the product is a specially treated paper laminated to a polyester film and coated with a silicone adhesive that allows the tape to withstand elevated temperatures of nearly 500oF without leaking. After processing, the tape reportedly detaches from the substrate cleanly and easily, leaving no adhesive residue.
