One Stop Systems' PCIe cable adapters certified to Canon Green standards

Feb 7, 2012

One Stop Systems, Inc. (OSS - Escondido, CA), a supplier of PCIe-over-cable products and custom and semi-custom computing systems, announced that it is the first US printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer certified to Canon's Green Procurement Standards.

Certification was necessary for OSS to supply Canon with the PCIe cable adapters used in the Canon DreamLabo 5000 production photo printer, a high-volume photo-quality commercial printer. The OSS PCIe cable connects the internal computer to high-speed I/O control electronics. Qualification for certification required months of reporting and evaluation to show that OSS meets the stringent requirements for material content and waste disposition.

“In 2011 One Stop Systems met the requirements for certification by both ISO 14001:2004 and the Canon Green Procurement Standards,” said Steve Cooper, CEO. “In both cases OSS worked diligently to change internal cultural habits in order to meet these stringent requirements."

Based on the certification system, green procurement at Canon is the practice of purchasing environmentally conscious parts and materials that make Canon's products friendly to the environment. On this principle, Canon says it has been taking action to reduce energy use, conserve resources, and eliminate hazardous substances in the procurement of raw materials, parts, and commercially available products.

"In the case of Canon, OSS was evaluated several times over the year to ensure that it was following the guidelines," added One Stop's Cooper. "Meeting these requirements not only allows certain companies like Canon to procure OSS components, but also gives OSS a competitive advantage in the international marketplace. In a time when shortcuts are taken by many companies to cut costs, these certifications require that OSS ensure that the components it uses meet international standards for environmental impact. This is another example of OSS’ leadership in the market.”
