SlimPort USB technology ports audio, video to HD display via mobile device connector

Oct 31, 2011

Analogix Semiconductor announced that its SlimPort technology, which sends uncompressed audio and video from a mobile device’s USB connector to HD and legacy displays, is available for compatibility testing and design integration using cables and adapters from Beijing Creativity. On display this week at the SmartPhone Japan tradeshow event, the Beijing Creativity SlimPort products are now available to smartphone and tablet manufacturers as well as to consumers in China, beginning November 1. Smartphone and tablet manufacturers can order SlimPort cables and adapters that have been verified for quality, performance and compatibility through Analogix’ SlimPort Accessories Adopters Program (SAAP).

Beijing Creativity expects that its cables and adapters will link SlimPort-enabled smartphones and tablets to the millions of monitors, TVs and projectors in the market today, by supporting most major video standards including VGA, DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI, without using power from the device. Additionally, the companies note that SlimPort doesn’t require a form factor change on the part of the manufacturer, since it sends content through the industry-common mobile USB connector. Using only three signal pins, SlimPort cables can be ultra-thin at lengths up to five meters, all while transferring uncompressed graphics, video and 3D at full HD with 7.1 channel audio capabilities.

“The SlimPort products from Analogix bring powerful media sharing capabilities to smartphones and tablets, allowing big screen, group viewing of all phone content from videos and photos to business media like PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets,” said Weixin Ni, General Manager of Beijing Creativity. “Creativity has seen a great interest from devices manufacturers to integrate SlimPort products into their devices, and now we have the cables and adapters to support the proliferation of complete SlimPort solutions to consumers.”

“Creativity is an ideal partner for Analogix to help develop the ecosystem of SlimPort compatible mobile devices,” added Andre Bouwer, Vice President of Marketing for Analogix. “Not only does Creativity meet the needs of OEMs who wish to private label their own accessories, they also plan to provide cables to end users as well.”
