As reported at Autoevolution, Kawsaki's North American division has posted a recall notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website, announcing a decision to rectify via manufacturer's recall problems with the wiring harness of its 2011 Ninja model ZX-10R and ZX-10R ABS motorcycles.
The safety warning states that a short between wires and the vehicle's frame or within wires could occur while the bike is in motion, which could result in the engine stopping suddenly, leading to a crash. It is possible for a portion of the wiring harness to become pinched between the rear subframe and the rear fender or between the rear subfrrame and the bolt holding the seat cover. This can damage the harness and wiring and result in a short between wires and the frame or within wires, which could result in the engine stopping suddenly, the NHTSA recall summary reportedly explains.
According to the Autoevolution report, the fix is a quality assurance measure investigated during testing for the 2012 model year and is being applied retroactively to existing 2011 units as a pre-emptive action. Approximately 2,560 units from the respective model year motorcycles are affected.
