Terry Gou, chairman of Taiwan's Hon Hai Group and Foxconn Technology, will reportedly invest US$6.2 billion to set up an integrated photovoltaic operation in mainland China for production of crystalline silicon materials and solar cells. According to the Chinese-language 21st Century Herald, Gou will work with GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd. Chairman Zhu Gongshan and Hareon Solar Technology Co., Ltd. President Yang Huaijin on the investment. GCL-Poly is currently mainland China’s No.1 polycrystalline silicon maker, turning out 17,800 metric tons of the raw solar cell material last year.
