EJL Wireless Research (Salem, NH) has announced the third report within its proprietary series of research reports focused on the RF transmission lines market that connects wireless macro cell base stations (BTS) and BTS antennas.
The new report focuses on the global transmission line RF connector market for products that interface the BTS to the feeder cables, then to the jumper cables and finally to the antenna. The performance of the RF connector is critical in maintaining RF signal integrity from the BTS to the antenna.
The research contends that, as transmission line RF connector shipments correlate with both feeder cable and jumper cable shipments, the transmission line RF connector market dropped 29% year over year in total volumes (measured in units) in 2010.
"In terms of RF connector type, the 1/2" or smaller 7/16 DIN product segment remained the largest in 2010,” says EJL Wireless Research founder and president, Earl Lum.
Weak end market demand in Asia Pacific (China and India) and Africa offset strong demand in North America and Latin America in 2010, finds the report. “In revenue terms, the overall market declined by 27% in 2010," explains Lum.
"We estimate that CommScope was the world's largest supplier of transmission line RF connectors in 2010 with over 30% market share in revenues. We note that PPC increased by four positions in our rankings and was fourth in 2010,” Lum added.
