TE Connectivity launches data center, physical layer management software

Jan 30, 2012

TE Connectivity (TE) has introduced its Infrastructure Configuration Manager (ICM) software, specifically designed for customers of TE’s Amptrac ninth wire system and advanced Quareo connection point identification technology. According to the company, providing customers with a single platform for managing both platforms, ICM comprises an automated real-time physical layer management system that is designed to explore, discover and map all the connections of the network, allowing data center and network managers to simplify the process of all moves, adds and changes (MACs), improve security and reduce operating expenses.

According to the company, when used with Amptrac and Quareo, the ICM software system allows immediate response to changes in connectivity and automatically records the connections of the physical layer cabling system and its devices with accurate documentation. TE managed connectivity solutions, enabled by ICM, are designed to help customers eliminate time consuming manual work order processes, easily identify and locate specific ports, auto-discover IP assets, and trace data center circuits from the switch through the cross-connect to the server. The system also helps maximize network investment by identifying under-utilized assets and improving security through real-time monitoring and programmable alerts.

“ICM works with both our Amptrac ninth wire solution and our innovative Quareo solution, allowing our customers to choose the appropriate platform to meet their specific application and business needs,” explains Kam Patel, product management director for emerging technologies at TE Enterprise Networks. “ICM is ideal for customers needing to manage complex networks, allowing simultaneous access to a wide range of departments, including help desk, planning, network administration, supervision and technicians.”

Both ISO 20000 and BS 15000 compliant to support ITIL best practices and the TIA-606B, automated infrastructure management draft standard, ICM is configurable via an intuitive menu structure and third-party software support via Application Programming Interface (API) capabilities. TE says that ICM provides benefits to client networks of any size and application, including financial institutions, insurance providers, data centers, high security government facilities, military defense facilities, airports, medical centers, universities and corporate headquarters.

ICM will debut with on-site demonstrations in TE's booths at Cisco Live in London, January 30 – February 2, and at the BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, Florida, February 12 – 16.
