At CES 2012, Accell debuts MHL cable for mobile-to-DTV connectivity

Jan 3, 2012

At the 2012 International CES in Las Vegas (Jan. 10-13), Accell, a provider of audio/video and computer accessories, will be exhibiting its new MHL cable, which provides a direct connection from MHL-enabled mobile devices to MHL-enabled HDTVs, so consumers can view and share high-definition (HD) content.

MHL technology is a rapidly growing HD audio/video connectivity standard that enables a mobile device with MHL technology to deliver 1080p uncompressed video with up to eight channels of digital audio. MHL-enabled HDTVs and displays also provide power back to the mobile device when connected, ensuring that the phone battery is charged and ready to use.

“With the Smartphone and tablet market growing at a rapid rate, Accell has established itself as a market leader by engineering first-to-market products, such as our latest cable for MHL technology,” stated Michael Weizer, director of marketing, Accell.

MHL cable product features, according to Accell, include the following:

-- Transmits HD video up to 1080p and 7.1 surround sound audio with no latency, which makes it ideal for gaming;

-- Supports continuous charging of the mobile device when connected;

-- Supports the MHL feature of controlling the connected device with the TV remote.

“Since the release of our specification in June of last year, it’s been great to see the steady release of MHL-enabled products entering the market, including the first MHL-enabled HDTVs,” said Tim Wong, president, MHL, LLC. “Accessories such as Accell’s MHL cable allow consumers to connect their new MHL-enabled Smartphones directly to an MHL-enabled TV without the need for any other power cords or adapters. You can then interact with your favorite games, photos, movies and more on the big screen.”

The MHL cable is the third product released by Accell for MHL-enabled displays and devices. Other products include an MHL-to-HDMI adapter and an MHL-to-HDMI adapter with an HDMI cable.
