From Ironwood Electronics, a new etched spring-pin socket addresses high-performance requirements for testing ASE's 32-lead QFN-CBT-QFN-7008.
According to the company, the specific configuration of the package to be tested in the CBT-QFN-7008 is a QFN, 4.5x4.5mm, 0.4mm pitch, 32 positions with center ground pad. The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and uses the smallest footprint in the industry. The smallest footprint allows inductors, resistors, and decoupling capacitors to be placed very close to the device for impedance tuning.
The contactor is an etched spring pin with 34-gram actuation force per ball and a cycle life of 500,000 insertions. The self-inductance of the contactor is 0.95 nH, insertion loss < 1 dB at 7 GHz and capacitance 0.097pF. The current capacity of each contactor is 4.1 amps at 60°C temperature rise. Socket temperature range is -55°C to +155°C. The socket also features a low profile, double-latch snap-lid for ease of operation. It also has a wave spring with swivel compression plate for vertical force without distorting the device position.
To use, place QFN device into the socket and close the lid by snapping to the latch. This socket can be used for quick device screening characterization at extreme temperatures, as well as final production test using automated handlers.
Pricing for the CBT-QFN-7008 is $564 at single quantities, with reduced pricing available.
