Consumer Reports' Maggie Shader has reported that custom trailer hitch products provider Curt Manufacturing has recalled nearly 2,400 tow package wiring harnesses due to a flaw where moisture can seep into the converter module and defeat the harness's internal circuit protection, potentially causing the module to overheat and catch fire.

The tow package wiring harnesses in question connect tow vehicle lighting circuits to trailer lighting circuits for 2009 - 2011 series Hyundai Veracruz and Kia Sorento vehicles. Affected units that are not water tight are reported to have part number 56024. The safety recall to notify owners is set to begin this month. The tow package wiring harness will be replaced for free.
