As reported at Edmunds Inside Line, General Motors is recalling 5,220 2012 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks to replace seat belt buckle electric connectors that may prevent visual or audible warnings that the driver's seat belt is not fastened. GM said there are no known crashes or injuries associated with the recall, and that the problem was discovered during an assembly plant audit at the GM truck plant in Shreveport, Louisiana. "These vehicles may have been produced with driver safety belt buckle electrical connector terminals that do not fit snugly with the connector pins, causing the connection to be intermittent," said the NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The loose connections may cause the driver to not receive a visual or audible warning that the driver's seat belt is not fastened, thereby increasing the risk of personal injury in the event of a crash." The recall is expected to begin on November 30; dealers will replace the seat belt buckle electrical connector terminals.
