Custom push-lock SMB connectors provide positive contact in high vibration environments

November 5, 2009 -- The custom push-lock SMB connectors from Aviel Electronics are billed as a follow-on design to the company’s SMA connector, and feature a smaller interface with a snap-on coupling. For high vibration environments, the 2 pound minimum disengagement force of the standard SMB design is not sufficient.

With the new connector, Aviel has added a push-lock feature to the standard MIL-STD-348 snap-on coupling SMB design that increases the disengagement force to a minimum of 5 pounds. A locking shell pushes over the mated interfaces, locking the interface while allowing full rotation of the mated pair. Pulling back the shell allows the interfaces to be disengaged. The mating pairs include a right angle plug with crimp attachment for RG-174U cable. The jack interface is designed for standard PC board and bulkhead mounting.

Connectors are hermetically sealed and meet the IP68 immersion test. Pictured (above) are standard and reverse polarity interface pairs. Typical SMB electrical performance applies, 0-4 Ghz low reflection frequency range and usable up to 10 Ghz. Shown is Gold plated machined brass body construction; optional stainless steel bodies are also available.
