ITT fluid-sealed MIL-C5015 vibration-resistant multifunctional connectors suit harsh defense, power applications

ITT Interconnect Solutions (NYSE: ITT) has unveiled a new multi-functional harsh-environment connector, expanding on its existing range of MIL-C5015 and VG95234 compliant CA Bayonet connectors.

The new CA Triple Thread interconnect employs a proprietary coupling methodology developed to provide fluid sealing, vibration resistance and safety features which exceed current CA specifications for harsh-environment performance. According to ITT, the CA Triple Thread connector provides fast, easy and safe coupling / uncoupling and gives high vibration resistance to the stringent standards defined in ISO 16750. It is also sealed to IP69k against fluid ingress.

The connector's rugged shell design features RoHS compliant black zinc iron anticorrosive plating which gives 96-hour salt spray resistance: alternatively an optional RoHS-compliant zinc nickel plating in blue/grey metallic is available giving 500 hours of salt spray resistance. (The interconnect includes fully RoHS compliant plating in accordance with ITT ICS' newly posed 'Blue Generation' definition i.e.[the company's] own proactive stance to ensure the elimination of materials such as chrome 6, lead and cadmium from plating processes to assist in the drive in the industry toward improving global ecology.)

Contact layouts for the CA Triple Thread connector offer all traditional ITT ICS CA layouts for the respective shell size, with CA Bayonet contacts in a hard silver or optional gold finish, which guarantee a minimum of 500 mating cycles. Insulators are manufactured from high-quality polychloroprene to enable the CA Triple Thread connector to withstand temperatures ranging from -55C to +125C. Alternatively, high temperature rubber materials for up to +200C can be chosen.

The CA Triple Thread interconnect features ITT's patented Universal Shielded End Bells for superior strain relief, sealing and ensuring 100% signal transmission. A variety of shell styles and accessories is available, including 90 degree end bells, for maximum design flexibility. Commonality of end bells and tooling with all current CA Bayonet series products may reduce customer costs in utilizing the new CA Triple Thread interconnect, notes ITT.

Suitable applications include defense systems, heavy-duty diesel and gas engines, power-generating units, off-road military vehicles and ships, says the company.
