October 19, 2009 -- Artos Engineering Company (Waukesha, WI) has introduced its Cr-11 wire processing system. The wire processor is specifically designed to handle low volume runs for a high mix of automated applications, says the company.
The Cr-11's use of digital servo-drive technology precisely controls every operation of the wire processor. Artos's TU-11 crimping unit enables a high level of programmable operation to handle a wide range of applications, including closed barrel terminals. An integrated crimp force monitoring system also verifies crimp quality.
A wheeled tool cart accommodates both side- and end-feed terminals. Users can pre-load terminal reels to quickly change applications, maximizing efficiency and machine uptime. The mobile carts also allow for easy transport and storage of reels and applicators. A built-in PC interface runs Artos' Unity operating software, allowing for easy programming and the ability to share wire programs from machine to machine. The intelligent software also minimizes crimping cycle times to enable maximum production speeds. An automatic wire feed system feeds wire at rates of up to five meters per second; the servo closed-loop system ensures consistent quality by checking wire length while feeding.
Other efficiencies of the Cr-11, according to the company, include the following: the machine provides exceptionally high gripping force for larger gauge wires, but also makes optional rollers available for lighter gauge wires with thin insulations; in addition, the unit's level placement of the wire into terminals dramatically improves crimping process quality. In-line blades within the unique cutterhead design reduce the gap between wire grippers and the cutterhead, providing a significant increase in strip length capability; finally, optional micrometer and pull testers can be integrated into the machine to verify crimping parameters prior to production.
The Cr-11 is powered by a single-phase 220 volt supply. The company also notes that, in comparison to competitive models which feature stepper motor operation, the Cr-11 features eco-friendly design that reduces energy consumption.
"Our goal is to develop wire processing solutions that deliver true value for our customers," says John Olsen, president of Artos Engineering Company. "The Cr-11 is the versatile, automatic crimping solution our customers need to remain competitive within this challenging economy."
