September 3, 2009 -- The DN series from Schaltbau (Munich, Germany) offers a low-priced technological alternative to traditional push-pull connectors, contends the company. The connectors' bayonet coupling and patented, self-cleaning spring-loaded contacts ensure a long working life and excellent resistance to shock and vibration. Sealed to IP68, the DN series connector is protected against dust and against the consequences of long-term immersion in water, whether plugged or unplugged.

The DN series can be used at temperatures from -55 degrees C to +85 degrees C. It complies with the requirements of standard IEC 60512. The modular connector is available in metal and plastic versions. backshells are available for shrink boots, cable sleeves and braided screen connections. The bayonet coupling ensures fast, safe connections. The mechanical working life of the metal variant is 8,000 mating cycles; that of the plastic version is around 1,000. Both versions are available with different number of contacts.

The spring-loaded contacts with self-cleaning faces are gold plated for a high level of resistance to shock and vibration. In addition, this ensures low contact resistance for consistently high contact reliability even with low voltages and currents. The variable structure of the DN Metal series also allows the use of screen attenuation and filter discs to prevent disturbances from external EMC factors.

Also from Schaltbau are the M series connectors, featuring a modular design and manufactured to the IP67 standard. Vibration, dust and aggressive liquids or vapors are often the cause of malfunctions, and can lead to safety problems; the M series connector features additional sealing rings to guard against these conditions.
