June 3, 2009--Molex's SlimStack series of board-to-board connectors now includes a 0.40-mm (.016") featuring a width of 2.60 mm (.102"). These miniature surface-mount connectors are designed for tight-packaging applications such as mobile phones, digital cameras, or portable audio units.
Available in 20 to 80 circuits, the connectors have a profile height of 1.00 mm (.039"), but are designed to provide greater space savings than many 0.90-mm (.035") height versions.
Gold-plated grounding and soldering tabs are designed to save space while providing secure PCB retention and electrical grounding. The solder tab's friction lock design, when combined with a tuning fork terminal design, provides a tactile click for secure contact and protection against drop impact.
The SlimStack housing allows for PCB tracing patterns to be run underneath the connector to provide design flexibility and space savings. The contact areas of the terminals are gold-plated and include a nickel barrier to protect against solder flux wicking. The system is rated at 50V and 0.3A. Housing designs include sufficient space for robotic pick-and-place.
