EPOXY, THERMAL ADHESIVES–EP13 is a single-component, high-performance epoxy adhesive that requires no mixing and is designed for an unlimited working life at room temperature. The company says EP13 has excellent bond strength to similar and dissimilar substrates, as well as strong dimensional stability. Service operating temperature range is -60° to 450° F. The adhesive is 100% reactive, does not contain solvents or diluents, and can be applied to vertical surfaces without sagging or dripping. It cures at temperatures of 300° to 350° F in 60 to 90 minutes. EP13 possesses high compressive strength and is machinable. Upon cure, it obtains tensile shear strengths in excess of 3,500 psi. It offers strong resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including fuels, acids, bases, oils and many solvents, has low shrinkage upon cure, and good electrical insulation properties. Standard color is grey, and available in pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon containers.

EP21AN is a two-part adhesive system featuring a thermal conductivity in excess of 22 (BTU•in/ft2•hr•°F). This high-level electrical insulator has a dielectric strength of >400 volts/mil and a volume resistivity greater than 1013 Ω-cm. The adhesive has been formulated with a non-critical 1/1 mix ratio by weight or volume. It cures readily at ambient temperatures, or more quickly at elevated temperatures. EP21AN promises excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates, including metals, ceramics, glass, and many plastics. The company claims the adhesive’s bonds exhibit exceptional dimensional stability, and that shrinkage upon cure is exceptionally low. EP21AN is available in 1/2 pint, pint, quart, gallon and 5-gallon kits.

MOTORIZED CABLE CUTTER–The Ring-Cut Master cable preparation tool is designed to strip the most difficult cables that utility knives or standard blades cannot handle. The AC-powered CT-255 can rotary-cut external high strength solid steel wire armor on electro-mechanical cables (EM cables), as well as fiberoptic cables, with its diamond abrasive blade. Ring-Cut Master can also rotary-cut cables and hoses protected with solid or braided shields. The tool has an adjustable depth of cut, and cam-action blade plunging; it can ring-cut cables up to .625” diameter (15 mm). A cable stop, graduated in millimeters and inches, sets the stripped cable length. Rotate the CT-255 one full turn to cleanly cut though the cable jacket and armor while preventing damage to the inner conductors.

DRY CLOTH FIBER CLEANER–IBM dry cloth cleaners for mated and unmated fiberoptic connectors are designed for single connectors residing in the bulkhead adapter or loose on a cable assembly. The cleaners are made for both ultra- and angled-polished ferrules. They are molded with an anti-static material and use a specially woven cleaning fiber that carefully lifts and removes contaminants without damaging the ferrule’s endface. The SC-type cleaner is a universal 2.5-mm dry cloth designed to remove contaminants from SC, FC, and ST connectors. The LC-type is a universal 1.25-mmcleaner for LC, LC secure keyed, and MU connectors. These disposable cleaners provide up to 500 cleanings per unit and clean a surface area of 800-µm.

THERMAL PRINTER TARGETS TERMINAL BLOCKS–THERMOMARK W2 thermal transfer printer simultaneously prints on both sides of the company’s endless shrink sleeves. Additionally, new UniCard marking card options make the BLUEMARK printer compatible with a wider range of terminal blocks. Featuring two printheads, the THERMOMARK W2 prints double-sided, 300-dpi shrink sleeves at speeds of up to two inches per second. The printer software lets you dictate the overall length of the marking sleeve, reducing waste and lowering material costs by up to 30%. A specially engineered cutter perforates or cuts each sleeve where specified. The BLUEMARK printer’s newest materials–the UC1 and UC2 series UniCards–are designed to snap into Weidmuller, Allen-Bradley and Wago terminal blocks. Using a liquid plastic-based ink and UV curing process, the BLUEMARK creates non-smudging markers resistant to harsh chemicals and environments. It has an output of up to 10,000 markers an hour.

THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTER–MARKINGenius is a high-speed desktop thermal transfer printer for industrial labels. Designed to be 10 times faster than a regular plotter system, it can produce identification and labeling media for wire marking, terminal blocks, cables, tubing, panel building components, and equipment of all types. The MARKINGenius prints True Type fonts in black and more than 4,000 other colors. This system is also capable of printingClipart images, drawings, and bitmaps down to very small dimensions. There is no warming up or positioning process. For example, to print 1,000 wire or terminal block labels with 8 characters takes one hour using a plotter, but with the MARKINGenius, the same task can be accomplished in just over six minutes. Printed markers are available for immediate use since the deposited pigment from the ribbon dries the moment it is printed.

SELF-FILLETING DIE ATTACH–Ablestik self-filleting die attach offers the benefits of traditional die attach pastes but incorporating a self-filleting mechanism, designed to be a less costly alternative to die attach films. Proprietary die attach paste technology features capillary force to control flow and deliver complete wetting. Unlike conventional die attach materials that rely on precise dispense patterns in combination with die placement force to encourage flow, determine bondline thickness and promote wetting, Ablestik brand self-filleting pastes use capillary function to control these critical process parameters through dispense volume and spacer technology. Materials are available in three formulations: Ablestik AAA3300 non-conductive paste for die to substrate laminate-based devices; Ablestik AAA3320 non-conductive material for die to die attachment, including same size, pyramidal and orthogonal die stack packages, and; Ablestik 3900 conductive adhesive designed for die to substrate leadframe packages.

THERMAL, HIGH CONDUCTIVITY EPOXIES–Polymer System EP79 is a silver-coated-nickel filled epoxy featuring exceptionally low electrical resistance. Volume resistivity is less than 0.04 ohm-cm at room temperature. EP79 has a 1:1 mix ratio and cures readily at room temperature or more rapidly atelevated temperatures. When cured, it forms strong, tough bonds with high shear and peel strengths.

These high strength bonds are resistant to severe thermal cycling as well as mechanical shock and vibration. With a service temperature range of 4K to 275° F, the EP79 has been used in many cryogenic applications. It is an alternative to silver-filled epoxy and is now available pre-mixed in frozen syringes in addition to syringes, jars, and cans of various sizes. Supreme 11AOHT (above) is a 2-component, room temperature-curing epoxy adhesive designed with high thermal conductivity and excellent electrical insulation properties. The paste can be applied without sagging or dripping and bonds to similar and dissimilar substrates, including most metals, ceramics, glass, and most rubbers and plastics. Bonds are resistant to water, oil, and most organic solvents. The epoxy’s operating temperature range is -100° to 400° F, making it suitable for applications involving thermal cycling.

POLYURETHANE ENCAPSULANT–UR3005 polyurethane encapsulant exhibits very low moisture absorption and high elongation at low temperatures. UR3005, a polybutadiene modified polyurethane, has excellent moisture resistance with water pickup of less than 1% during immersion at 60 degrees C. As a medium soft encapsulant, UR3005 induces very little stress on sensitive parts, such as printed circuit board level components and associated solder joints. UR3005 gels in 10 to 20 minutes. Full cure is typically reached in 24 hours. The encapsulant has excellent adhesion to many plastics and metals, and low shrinkage and exotherm upon cure. The product is suitable of long-term service at 125 degrees C. Standard color is black, but other colors are available upon request. The 2-part system has a 6 to 1 mix ratio and should be dispensed using meter mix dispense, MMD, equipment.
