The National Electrical Distributors Association (NEDA; www.naed.org) recently bestowed its highest honor, the Gail S. Carter Award, to Roy Vallee, chairman and chief executive officer of Avent Inc. (www.avnet.com). The annual presentation was held during the 2008 NEDA Executive Conference in Chicago. The award acknowledges electronic-distributor principals who have made significant contributions to the distribution industry, have taken an active role in NEDA and civic affairs, and are recognized ad industry leaders. Under Vallee’s leadership, Avnet has been a steady champion of NEDA, says the association.

He has more than two decades of commodity and specialty chemical expertise gained while working at Dow Chemical where he served in a range of executive positions, including global joint-venture management, finance, marketing, and commercial development.
High-tech trade association AeA (www.aeanet.org) and the Electronic Components Association (www.ecaus.org) have entered discussions to consider a merger. The groups believe a merger “would represent thousands of member companies that would benefit from access to a wider variety of government and commercial programs,” including standards development, business and capital development, issue advocacy, and research. The AeA represents all sectors of the high-tech industry, while the Electronic Components Association represents manufacturers and suppliers of passive and electro-mechanical electronic components, connectors, wire, cable, component arrays, assemblies, materials, and support.
Sullins Connector Solutions (www. sullinscorp.com) has named Falcon Sales and Technology Inc., Interconex Solutions, and Straube Associates as representatives of the company’s Micro Plastic connector lines in specific California territories--San Diego County, Orange and Los Angeles County, and San Francisco Bay Area, respectively. OES Inc. (www.oes-inc.com) has received Equipment Release Notifications from Delphi Manufacturing Excellence Center (European Operations) for the CFM4100, 4200, and 2100 crimp force monitors. The newly introduced models have all received approval for use within Delphi manufacturing operations. “This new generation technology is a significant advancement in process variation monitoring for wire processing,” says Mike Reeve, vice president of strategic sales and business development.
