Clearfield debuts FieldSmart fiber wallbox

Sep 22, 2008

September 22, 2008 -- Clearfield, Inc. (formerly APA Cables & Networks), a supplier of fiber management platforms, has introduced its FieldSmart fiber management wallbox, a new component in the company's FieldSmart fiber management platform.

The wallbox provides 12 to 24 ports of fiber management access and protection. Designs for both the outside plant as well as business-class environments are on display this week at the 2008 FTTH Conference & Expo in Nashville, TN.

Employing Clearfield's Clearview Cassette at its core, the FieldSmart wallbox provides service providers with plug and play integration based upon the configuration requirements of the application. The wallbox supports all cable construction types for both patch-only and patch and splice deployments. All industry standard connector styles are available. The product is ready and available for shipment.

The FieldSmart Wallbox-OSP is designed for the harsh environmental conditions of the outside plant, with full NEMA 4 certification. For ease of integration, the Wallbox-OSP ships with a field-deployed "knock-out" that allows for conduit entry while maintaining NEMA 4 performance.

The FieldSmart Wallbox-Riser is designed for business-class and MDU environments. The Wallbox-Riser is ring-cut capable, supporting feeder and distribution cables through the riser. Both versions provide a swinging bulkhead that supports and protects sub-unit slack storage.

The Clearview Cassette is the primary component of every FieldSmart product, including a full line of central office panels and frames within the FieldSmart fiber distribution system as well as the Fiber Scalability Center line of PON and cross-connect cabinets.

According to the company, the Clearview Cassette ensures that all the basic principals of fiber management are satisfied without exposure to environmental hazards or human interaction. Integrated cassette components fully nest into the cassette main housing to support any application or fiber type desired.

Within the cassette, all fibers from the sub-assembly are slack stored, bend radius protected, and secured against accidental physical damage from handling. Designed to handle the toughest operating environments, the Clearview Cassette provides flexibility and reliable performance in the central office and in the field.

Further, the Clearview Cassette utilizes a clear outer housing allowing for quick and easy first-step troubleshooting of unacceptable light conditions. Tool-less snap-together nesting covers and a removable 12-pack adapter plate allow for easy access to terminated sub assemblies for maintenance and cleaning.
