ElectriPlast to address international electrical, electronics connectors conference on high-voltage applications

Jan 25, 2012

Integral Technologies subsidiary company ElectriPlast Corp., makers of electrically conductive resins used in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle connectors, has been invited to speak at the International Electrical and Electronics Connectors Conference to be held in Cologne, Germany in April, 2012.

High voltage connector applications offer unique challenges requiring tight tolerances and complex molding techniques,” commented Mo Zeidan, Director of New Product Development for ElectriPlast Corporation. “We have been working side-by-side with our OEM and Tier1 clients for several years to develop this technology for high-voltage applications. We are delighted to have been chosen to present at the international conference in Cologne and look forward to sharing our insights with other professionals in the electrical connectors field.”

The company says its patented ElectriPlast line of non-corrosive, electrically conductive resins bear properties that allow it to be molded into any of the infinite shapes and sizes associated with plastics, rubbers and other polymers while reducing component weight by 40 to 60%. Applications for the ElectriPlast conductive plastics include; wire, cable, power electronics, EMI shielding applications, antennas, capacitors, mobile devices and connectors.

Maintaining connector integrity in corrosive environments

By GARY STEVENS, IMPCO, Inc. -- Due to their very nature, connectors are the most vulnerable points in a circuit. Corrosion, from either oxidation or galvanization, reduces current-carrying capacity and results in intermittent, and eventually permanent, circuit failure. In harsh environments, the major cause of connector failure is galvanic corrosion, a process in which dissimilar metals give up or collect electrons in the presence of an electrolyte (usually water). Vacuum resin impregnation is a cost-effective method for eliminating corrosion problems in electronic connectors and associated wiring harnesses.

ElectriPlast expects that increased connectivity in the automotive sector will be due to the advent of the electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid EV. Additionally, the company notes that as more actions are controlled by computer systems, the industrial connector sector is seeing a rise in robotics and automation. This is in addition to use of connectors in the alternative energy industry, the military, domestic appliances, mobile technology and medical applications.

Recently, ElectriPlast announced that its line of patented resins will be applied to a new generation of high-voltage, lightweight connectors for the Fisker-Karma vehicle, the world’s first premium plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, slated for upcoming production in Valmet, Finland.

The International Electrical and Electronics Connectors Conference, sponsored by plastics market researcher Applied Market Information Ltd.(AMI), is the first international conference directed at attracting industry leaders from the fields of connector technology to provide a forum for brand owners, electrical and electronics manufacturers, researchers, designers and suppliers to the industry to debate the latest developments and market trends.
