IWCS, CCCA target structured cabling systems

Aug 6, 2008

August 6, 2008 -- The International Wire & Cable Symposium, Inc., (IWCS - www.iwcs.org) and the Communications Cable and Connectivity Association, Inc., (CCCA) have announced their intent to cooperate in the expansion of the annual IWCS Technical Symposium and Conference to include technical papers and information on structured cabling systems (SCS) and applications used in the information technology (IT) infrastructure for commercial buildings and critical facilities.

The cooperation will be a pilot for the 2008 IWCS Technical Symposium, which will be held November 9-12 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI.

According to the groups, the immediate goal of the joint effort is to emphasize IWCS as a new and differentiated SCS and IT infrastructure venue. A designated "IT Infrastructure and Connectivity" track will be developed to attract a new technology focused connectivity audience to the symposium.

Attendees will include network and facilities managers and professionals seeking more scientific depth in ascertaining the technology aspects of cabling infrastructure, with a specific view toward vertical market segments including healthcare, financial and government.

"Together IWCS and CCCA will provide a complementary depth of information currently not available from other associations and conferences," comments Kevin St. Cyr, CCCA chairman and president of Nexans' Berk-Tek division. "Our relationship with IWCS gives CCCA a superb opportunity to extend our reach through technology and science-based research papers to help guide IT infrastructure planning and decision making."

"The IWCS is the world's premier venue for the presentation of new and original wire and cable industry technologies and trends," adds John Sicotte, chairman of the IWCS board of directors and a senior vice president of Corning Cable Systems. "With this new relationship with CCCA, the IWCS Conference will expand its focus to include new and emerging applications and best practices in communications and data infrastructure."

Both IWCS and CCCA say they plan to continue to work constructively with other relevant trade and industry associations.
