Tyco Electronics offers fiber-to-the-antenna ODC connector

Nov 15, 2007

November 15, 2007 -- Tyco Electronics has reached an agreement with Huber+Suhner Group to become an alternative source for that company's ODC fiber-optic connector cable assemblies.

The companies contend that the ODC connector and supporting optical cable is rapidly becoming the standard connector interface specified in 3G, 4G and WiMax base station remote radios and fiber-to-the-antenna applications.

With the agreement, Tyco Electronics, among the world's largest interconnect manufacturers, is able to expand the ODC connector brand globally while providing customers with identical high quality products, regardless of the manufacturing source. Tyco Electronics and the Huber+Suhner Group will work together to expand the ODC product line and applications to maximize long term customer benefit.

The ODC product range incorporates precision machined rugged brass housings with two or four optical terminations in both singlemode and multimode fibers. The environmentally sealed, fixed and free connectors are supported by a range of highly crush resistant, high tensile strength "tactical" style cables.

Tyco Electronics will commence supply of ODC cable assemblies January 2008, following compatibility and interoperability qualification with Hubert+Suhner.
