The Brilliance line of audio/video connectivity products now includes BNC and RCA connectors in straight- and right-angle versions. Featuring one-piece construction, plated in either nickel or gold and with gold-plated center pins, these connectors target professional broadcasting and entertainment industries. Two independent compression points seal and hold the connector onto a miniature coaxial cable. A self-centering internal design allows seating of the coax conductor into the contact, holding it securely. Both BNC and RCA connectors feature cable retention force of >40 pounds, and a center conductor holding force of >150 grams.

The MedLock RF coaxial connector for medical applications features a quick-lock coupling mechanism rather than a threaded method, designed for more reliable connections and faster mounting. An extended connector housing provides strain relief and prevents damage from cable-bending. Suitable for applications up to 5,800 MHz, with service load at 500 watts for 2- and 4-GHz, its typical uses include magnetic field therapies and RF-controlled medical measurement and monitoring systems.

CABLE-TO-PCB SOLUTION

The EZA is a board-mount cable-to-PCB termination solution that has the mechanical characteristics of a right-angle SMA connector. The male connector is a specially designed clip that solders to any .141-inch semi-rigid or conformable cable, using the cable’s center conductor as the SMA male contact. The cable snaps into the board-mounted EZA, providing positive detent retention. Especially suited for cable launches from a PCB in confined spaces where SMA performance and power are required, the EZA has electrical, mechanical, and passive intermodulation performances that the company claims are comparable to an SMA in similar applications of up to 10 GHz.

Featuring precision stainless-steel housing, these 18-GHz TNC and “N” jacks are now available with the same half-inch-square mounting footprint as SMA connectors. Field-serviceable for .015, .018, .020, and .036-inch diameter accessories, the connectors are designed for 165° C maximum operating temperature, and meet RoHS and DFARS requirements.

With power-handling capabilities ranging from 1 to 625 watts and with frequency ranges from DC to 18 GHz, these RoHS-compliant termination loads are available in 7/16 DIN, N, TNC, BNC, SMA, and R-SMA. Loads with power-handling capability up to 10 watts are used primarily in applications for mobile communications, while the 625-watt load is designed for use in radio broadcasting transmission stations. (This device requires an external heat sink.)

QUICK-LOCK, SMA ALTERNATIVES

The QLS (Quick-Locking Standard) Series is designed as an alternative to SMA connectors, enabling connection without the need for tooling. The connector’s locking mechanism is built to ensure high butt contact force on the outer conductor, typically achieved with a threaded coupling mechanism. Rated for greater than 200 mating cycles, these connectors feature an insertion force of 30 N and an interface contact force of greater than 200 N. Working voltage is less than 500 volts/50 Hz. QLS connectors operate up to 6 GHz, or 18 GHz if attached to semi-rigid cable.

RF coaxial connectors from the company’s N, TNC, and SMA Series are designed for connecting antennas, access points, and circuit cards to wireless LANs (WLAN). To prevent incorrect or improper components from being connected, these devices offer reverse polarity protection. The standard-sized cable plug contains a female center contact, while the mating receptacle contains a non-standard male center contact.
