Next-generation software for cable-test system

May 1, 2007

CAMI Research has released a major software upgrade for the CableEye cable and wire harness tester. Version 5 software displays multiple, independent connector graphics with live video graphics to help visualize complex wiring.

Drag connector images to the desired position on the left or right sides of the screen, and orient each to view into the pins or into the termination using a control button next to each connector. Model cable data can be compared with test data to locate wiring faults quickly.

Many new features were designed to increase productivity and reduce errors. You can highlight wires of interest with a mouse click, then test that wire for resistance, edit wiring graphically with a rubber-banding tool to add/change/delete connections, hover over components to see pop-up connector names, pin numbers, resistance values, and diode voltages.

An advanced grid display allows entry of graphic wire color codes with a description for each wire, resistance values, and tolerances. You can measure diodes for forward voltage drop and reverse leakage up to 10 MΩ. A new high-speed check for intermittent connections runs more than 10 scans per second while a cable is flexed.

New reporting functions with preview print reports show the schematic diagram, wire list, component values, and descriptive notes. Administrators may assign log-in security with three levels of privilege to protect databases, scripts, and program data from tampering. Data archiving is built in to optionally serialize and store the test results on every harness.

The Version 5 software upgrade is available at no charge to all CableEye customers with an active warranty, and for $295 to others. Version 5 software ships with all new testers.
