NEW POWER VARIANTS

The AirMax VS backplane connector system now features a 2 × 3 version for applications requiring additional power delivery but lacking the linear board space for two adjacent 2 × 2 power connectors, and a 2 × 2 version designed to match the 11.5-mm above-board height of AirMax VS three-pair signal connectors. A lower vertical profile lets you employ these power modules on the same 16.7-mm slot pitch as the three-pair connectors, and increases air flow in a chassis having wider slot spacing. These connectors are suitable where more powerful processors are continuously added, such as servers and storage systems, switches and routers, and medical electronics and instrumentation.

These Extended Reach double-data-rate (DDR) cable assemblies are designed for more than triple the reach of DDR InfiniBand cables. Featuring the company’s patented Eye-Opener conductor technology, combined with Quellan’s Q:Active ultra-small, low-power analog semiconductors, these cable assemblies are built for expansive cluster footprints within large data centers. The small and lightweight cables are designed to significantly reduce cable bundle size, allowing for increased system airflow plus ease of routing. According to the company, the assemblies offer improved performance resulting from low power consumption and latency, reduced crosstalk, and increased margins.

At 2-mm high, the LX Series of low-profile interface connectors are nearly 30% shorter than the company’s 3200 Series. These connectors are built to withstand a 30N maximum force applied in any direction when mated, and offer 5,000 mating cycles without loss of electrical or mechanical performance. They’re designed for such applications as cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other hand-held compact devices.

SOLID-CENTER CONDUCTOR

ConnecTec RGB compression connectors features a solid-center conductor that allows for the use of a one-piece connector. Typically, mini-RGB cables have stranded center conductors and need three- or four-piece connectors for successful termination. But according to the company, ConnecTec’s one-piece design helps installers who use 25- and 23-AWG cables to achieve the same time savings found when using RG-59 and RG-6 cables. ConnecTec BNC connectors are available in nickel-plated versions, while RCA connectors are available in both nickel- and gold-plated versions.

10-GBIT SMALL-FORM-FACTOR PLUGGABLES

XFP001/2/3-L Series 10-Gbit small-form-factor pluggable (XFP) modules are designed for use with 10-Gbit hot pluggable optical transceiver modules, and support three different heat sink profiles. An external clip attaches to the top of the heat sink and cage, holding it in place and designed to maintain a solid mechanical contact between the optical transceiver and heat sink. The company claims this feature assures minimal thermal resistance and maximum heat dissipation properties without degrading EMI performance. The nickel-plated copper alloy prevents oxidation, while an insulating barrier underneath the main body of the cage is designed to prevent PCB signal traces from shorting to the underside of the cage. The company can customize the heat sink profile so designers can configure their PCB architecture to maximize heat dissipation according to the cage location and connector within the application.

CATEGORY 6A JACKS

The SS-60300 Series of Category 6A PCB-mounted jacks feature internal compensation to enhance electrical performance without the need for extensive secondary compensation on the main PCB. Designed for 10-Gigabit Ethernet networking and computing applications, the jacks’ patent-pending design integrates the capacitive and inductive compensation on a flexible circuit board that attaches directly to the tips of the jacks’ contacts, close to where the jack and modular plug connect. According to the company, this close proximity helps cancel NEXT crosstalk introduced to the jack from the plug. In addition, as the flexible circuit board attaches to the jacks’ contacts, the jacks are designed to preserve the standard modular connector design, thereby ensuring durable and reliable connections.
