Computer, electronic products grow it alone

Dec 1, 2006

The most recent report from the Institute for Supply Management (www.ism.org) lists computer and electronics products as one of eight manufacturing sectors that grew in November.

The report includes a total of 18 sectors, so 10 others either held steady or declined. Overall, the report says, economic activity in the manufacturing sector failed to grow in November for the first time following 41 consecutive months of growth.

Of the eight sectors showing growth, computer and electronics products was sixth. The seven others showing growth were, in order: apparel, leather and allied products; plastics and rubber products; primary metals; food, beverage and tobacco products; miscellaneous manufacturing; printing and related support activities; and chemical products.

The ten other sectors examined are textile mills; wood products; paper products; petroleum and coal products; non-metallic mineral products; fabricated metal products; machinery; electrical equipment, appliances and components; transportation equipment; and furniture and related products.

The Manufacturing ISM Report on Business is published on the first business day of each month and is accessible through the ISM’s Web site.
