Leviton acquisition aims to broaden fiberoptic solutions

Electrical and electronic wiring devices manufacturer Leviton Manufacturing Co. (www.leviton.com) has acquired Illinois-based Fiber Connect (www.fiber-connect.com), a data center infrastructure solution provider, in hopes of extending its fiberoptic-based solutions to a wider audience of distributors, contractors, and end users. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, Fiber Connect will be under the umbrella of Leviton’s Voice and Data Division (www.levitonvoicedata.com). With the addition of Fiber Connect solutions, the Leviton Voice and Data suite of data center products “now includes quick-turn, custom, high-performance fiber solutions, a full range of Category-rated connectivity-including 10G-as well as cable management and power solutions,” says Leviton senior vice president Daryoush Larizadeh. Adds Fiber Connect founder and president Ron Berrettini, “We can now better serve our clients with Leviton’s global manufacturing and logistics capabilities, as well as reach a new set of customers. As technology infrastructure evolves, and increases in importance, we will become a global integration organization.”

Waldom teams with Triad Magnetics

Electronic component re-distributor Waldom Electronics (www.waldom.com) is partnering with power conversion products manufacturer Triad Magnetics (www.triadmagnetics.com), stocking Triad’s complete line of power and audio transformers, power supplies, inductors, switchmode/high frequency magnetics, and wall plug-in adapters. Waldom Electronics caters solely to the needs of distributors, providing access to such brands as AMP/Tyco, Cherry Electrical, Cinch, Crydom, and Molex. “Waldom maintains the resources to inventory the complete product line and provide same-day shipments, which other re-distributors are typically not capable of doing,” says Bill Dull, president of Triad Magnetics.

Corning commemorates connector sales milestone

Corning Cable Systems (www.corningcablesystems.com), which recently sold its 40 millionth UniCam connector since first introducing the product in 1993, is offering $20,000 in prize packages to commemorate the milestone. Corning is introducing four specially created “golden” UniCam connectors into distribution inventory. Each individual or company that finds a golden connector among its purchase will win a prize package valued at approximately $5,000. The contest will conclude at the January 2007 BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, FL. UniCam devices, built for singlemode and multimode applications, are no-epoxy, no-polish fiberoptic connectors designed to install quickly in the field with a single no-consumables tool kit.
