The OptiCam termination tool is designed to provide easy terminations of the company’s OptiCam pre-polished connectors. The tool features an integrated visual fault locator for indication of proper termination after the cam step has been completed. According to the company, the tool, along with its pre-polished connectors (with dual-cam design that secures both the fiber and buffer in one action to ensure consistent termination) are designed to eliminate operator error and deliver yield rates approaching 100%.

OPEN CORE PROTOCOL DEVICE

Sonics has introduced a new version of its S3220 SMART Interconnects system-on-chip (SoC) platform that features support for version 2.0 of the Open Core Protocol (OCP) standard. The company says its upgraded S3220 device enables developers of lower complexity SoCs to take advantage of the mature, low-cost OCP interconnect solution as an economical alternative to developing and maintaining these interconnects in-house. The company maintains that its S3220 device has been widely adopted for complex SoC products in digital consumer and wireless communications markets as an ancillary interconnect in conjunction with the SonicsMX SMART Interconnects platform. For current SoC implementations, the S3220 device offloads low to medium bandwidth input-output traffic, and registers programming traffic from the main system interconnect. According to the company, the addition of OCP 2.0 support enables the device to support more advanced intellectual property cores, making it more feasible as the main interconnect for lower complexity SoCs. As with all of the company’s SMART Interconnects devices, the S3220 is built using an advanced split-transaction, non-blocking interconnect fabric that lets latency-sensitive CPU traffic bypass DMA-based I/O traffic, together with the ability to decouple cores to achieve high IP core reuse. In addition, the company says the device offers seamless upgradeability from low-cost to high-performance SMART interconnect solutions that support a variety of SoC-based products, and “universal” connectivity to IP cores that support AMBA and OCP standards.

A new line of CAT-Multimedia Compression Assembly Tools is designed for use on 59/6 “F” and manufacturer-specific RCA and BNC connectors. CAT-Multimedia tools are based on the company’s field-proven Cablematic CAT Series, with high strength aluminum bodies and spring-loaded split jaws that position the cable and connector for easy insertion and removal. These tools are designed to provide fast and efficient cable assembly compression. According to the company, you can go between assembling “F” type, RCA and BNC connectors with no special adapters or adjustments with Digicon/F-Conn, Corning Gilbert and PPC models. (Holland, Liberty Wire & Cable and Thomas & Betts models require an adapter.) All tools are color-coded for easy identification, and are factory calibrated and set to provide ongoing fail-safe use in the multimedia environment.
