BOARD-TO-BOARD INTERCONNECT

This solderless, board-to-board, compression-style interconnection solution blends the manufacturer’s Cinch iQ connector with a flex circuit and compression system. They are designed for a variety of board-to-board applications, such as co-planar, parallel, stacked, multi-level, and backplane. With a number of I/O interconnects ranging from fewer than 10 to more than 400, the ability to match custom footprints, and a pitch as low as 1 mm, the product is built to ease designers’ ability to create multi-board solutions tailored to exact requirements. The high-speed low-profile technology offers low-self-inductance and low-resistance paths, meaning the interconnect design can handle higher-speed signals. The high-density interconnect lets designers optimize space on their PCBs. Also, the company says, its solderless compression system is easy to use and permits fast rework.

I/O MODULES

Three I/O modules from Automation Systems Interconnect (ASI) can be used with the 6K motion controller from Parker, Compumotor Division. The ASI modules IMDS15M, IMDS25F, and IMRC50 are alternatives to the Compumotor VM15, VM25, and VM50, respectively. The IMDS15 and 25 are screw terminal to D-sub connector modules that feature component holes on the printed circuit board, screw-lock connectors, clearly marked terminal blocks, and a position on the board for labeling the module for easy recognition. The IMRC module is a screw terminal to a 50-position ribbon cable connector that is designed with all the features as listed on the D-sub I/O interface modules. All three modules are in a similar black housing with a blue PCB to provide the same industrial look and dimensions as that of the Compumotor modules.

The SEARAY high-density interconnects (SEAM/SEAF Series) provide a solid grid of contacts on 0.050” pitch and up to 500 I/Os. The connectors have lower insertion/extraction forces, and solder crimps on the tails are RoHS compliant. Stack heights of 7, 8.5, and 10 mm are offered, along with array sizes of 8 or 10 rows by 20, 30, 40, or 50 pins per row. Pins may be routed single-ended or differentially in SEARAY connectors. Performance for the SEARAY at a -3 dB insertion loss is 4 GHz for single-ended applications, and 9 GHz for differential pair applications.

MIL-SPEC CONNECTORS

These Bi-Lobe connectors, designed for ultra-miniature systems that must withstand severe environments, are built to MIL-DTL-32139 design specifications. Key to their high-reliability, the company says, is the Mil-Spec performance of the spring-pin-and-socket system at 25-mil-pitch. A captive jackscrew system pulls the fully-shrouded nickel-plated connector shells together, for a scoop-proof mate and de-mate alignment. Designs include wire-to-wire cabling up to 30 AWG, and Teflon stranded wires for highly-flexible, miniature interconnections that can carry up to 1 A of current. Board-mount designs include a full range of SMT and through-hole configurations, and an “edge-mount” flex-circuit format.

The Insulated Multiple Tap Connector (UNITAP) line has been expanded to include the MOLE in-line splice/reducer. The line is tailored for direct buried applications and is made with a water-tight material designed to withstand abrasions that may occur in direct buried situations. The pre-insulated connectors for line splice, reducer, and tap applications are dual-rated for copper and aluminum, with multiple configurations that accommodate a variety of applications.

MECHANICAL CONNECTORS

These aluminum ShearBolt range-taking mechanical connectors, suitable for heavy-duty utility applications, come in three sizes and can accommodate both aluminum and copper conductors from 2 AWG compact stranded up to 1,000 kcmil standard stranded class B. The primary application is underground splicing of voltages up to 35 kV. Specially-designed shear head bolts connect the splice to the power cable, while the ShearBolt connectors control the torque applied and help ensure that proper torquing results. After the bolt shears, a minimal edge remains at the shear point.

These surface-mount technology host connectors are part of the iPass Interconnect system and are available in 26, 36, 50, and 68 circuit sizes,. The connectors have retention-fit, through-hole and SMT PCB-mounting shell options. These 0.80-mm-pitch connectors offer assembly flexibility. The shell provides latch points that align the plug to the connector, and acts as a strain relief to prevent cable management stress. It also has a pre-positioning device that acts as a disposable pick-and-place cap, and features three keying options to prevent mismating. Multiple solder-tail lengths are also available to accommodate multiple board thicknesses.

These low-profile SIM card connectors measure 1.55 mm high and are designed to meet the need of mobile phone design. The six-pin SIM card connectors can also be used for UIM cards. The utilization of an upper-side full-hold design is intended to bring enhanced contact reliability. Integrally molded contacts and housing are designed to add extra strength. An SMT-ready 6 pin design has a large suction area for automated mounting. The connectors are especially designed for mobile phones of the GSM system applications.

The Crossbow connector platform features a Crossbow Matrix for orthogonal midplane architectures, and Crossbow 2 mm+ for standard backplane configurations. The connector is designed so the differential pairs on each side of the midplane share vias, giving designers the benefits associated with orthogonal midplane architectures. The direct path approach and the connector’s footprint are designed to eliminate most electrical problems associated with the traditional backplane via stub. The Crossbow 2mm+ connector supports 12.5 Gbits/sec data rates in a high-density (63 pair/in) configuration.
