Amax Information Technologies and Supermicro join forces

Jan 1, 2006

SAN JOSE, CA - Amax Information Technologies, a top-tier server integrator and solution provider, and Supermicro Computer, a manufacturer of motherboard, chassis, and server solutions, have joined forces to deliver Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) solutions for the server market. The availability of these Supermicro SAS solutions marks an opportunity for white-box server vendors to be among the first to provide end-to-end next-generation SAS storage solutions.

Additionally, these SAS solutions support the new Intel Dual-Core Xeon CPU code-named Paxville, which boosts performance up to 50% and provides ease of migration from existing Xeon platforms. High volume and availability are key features that distributors look for in a leading-edge server solutions manufacturer. Therefore, traditional Xeon CPU support comes standard with all of these SAS solutions. “Add to those key components our breadth of selection and our customers now have a competitive edge in winning more business,” said Supermicro CEO Charles Liang.

“The evolution from parallel SCSI technology to Serial Attached SCSI technology is a major one for the IT industry,” Liang said. “Now there is a big opportunity to gain a competitive edge against branded vendors by delivering high-performance, more reliable and flexible storage solutions to meet price and performance needs. SAS technology allows a single platform to be used for both primary and secondary storage requirements. Mix-and-match SAS and SATA drives allow vendors to meet both the highest performance and reliability requirements for transaction-oriented applications as well as price-conscious enterprise needs.”

A major advantage of SAS is increased scalability-a single controller can support up to 128 SAS drives. For the first time, power-hungry customers are able to make a smooth transition from traditional SCSI to SAS because they share common protocol. The SAS technology is also backward compatible with existing SATA drives for data preservation at almost the same price point.

“Our continuing partnership with Supermicro has allowed our firm to remain in the forefront of technology,” said Amax president Jean Shih. “Supermicro’s engineering prowess is top-tier, with an emphasis on providing quality solutions. In addition, Supermicro understands the value of the concepts of time-to-market and providing platforms which reduce the cost of ownership.”

Amax Information Technologies offers SAS rackmount server solutions from 1U thru 5U to government, education, medical, and top 500 enterprise clients.
