IPC delves into history
IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries (Bannockburn, IL) plans to publish a history of the electronics industry in early 2007 to correspond with IPC’s 50th anniversary. Covering 50 years of electronics manufacturing history, the book’s chronology parallels that of the IPC, which was founded in 1957 when five printed-wiring-board (PWB) companies joined together to form the Institute for Printed Circuits, hence the name IPC. The book will chronicle the history of all segments of the electronics manufacturing industry, including materials, components, assembly, and test, reflecting the diversity and scope of today’s electronics industries. IPC has assigned the tasks of collecting information, writing, editing, and revising to Michael L. Martel of Martel Marketing Communications (Bristol, RI). Martel is seeking input on the history book, particularly recollections and perspectives about milestones, notable developments, and such from persons within the industry, at mmc@mmc-marketing.com.

Connector confidence soars
A monthly survey by Bishop & Associates (St. Charles, IL) reported that the global connector confidence index (CCI) soared from 75.5 in October to 86.7 in November, an unusually large jump. The world CCI is the combination of present and future confidence scores from all geographic regions. To conduct the survey, industry personnel are asked their appraisal of current business conditions (positive, negative, or neutral), where a score of 50 is neutral. The index for November was at its highest point since July 2004, when the index measured 88. In May and June 2004, the index was over 90.
