NEW YORK, NY -- The IEEE Wireless Communication Engineering Technologies (IEEE WCET) Certification Program has announced 3 – 30 October 2010 as the next testing period for its ongoing series of examinations dedicated to certifying the wireless communications expertise of professionals worldwide. The application deadline for the upcoming exam cycle is 17 September 2010.
Launched in 2008 by IEEE ComSoc, the IEEE WCET program was specifically designed by a collection of international experts to provide a vendor-neutral method for qualifying the knowledge of individuals in the areas of RF engineering, propagation and antennas; access technologies; network and service architecture; network management and security; facilities infrastructure; agreements, standards, policies and regulations; and fundamental knowledge.
“The opportunities for qualified wireless professionals are rapidly expanding around the globe,” says Celia Desmond, IEEE WCET program director and steering committee chairperson. “Today, more than 25 percent of the world’s population uses the Internet. Nearly every country is currently in the process of advancing the reach of existing mobile cellular and broadband services, developing the next generation of wireless technologies and/or extending wireless access to some of the earth’s most rural areas.”

To earn the IEEE Wireless Communication Professional (IEEE WCP) credential, individuals must pass the IEEE WCET comprehensive examination, which is composed of 150 multiple choice questions and offered via computer at testing centers worldwide. IEEE ComSoc recommends that candidates have a degree from an accredited college or university and three or more years of graduate-level educational or professional wireless communication engineering experience in order to be adequately prepared for the exam.
The US$500 fee ($450 for IEEE and IEEE ComSoc members) covers the application, processing charges and “seat fee” for taking the test. In addition, a 75-question practice exam can be purchased online by communications professionals who would like to gauge their preparedness for the official exam prior to the next testing period.
