The new FLX2010 SMD pick-and-place offers flexible placement technology for high-mix productions. With 190 feeders and the possibility of feeder changeover during operation, the FLX2010 allows production with nearly no downtime, reaching a placement rate of 5,000 cph. The component range includes tall components (height up to 15 mm), large connectors, and BGAs with 50-mm side lengths. The machine features a combination of two different centering systems, laser and vision, providing a mix of speed and accuracy for flexible production. ESSEMTEC, GLASSBORO, NJ www.essemtec.com

HIGH-VOLUME POLISHER

The APC-8000 high-volume polisher for 2.5-mm standard (SC, FC, ST, E-2000), 1.25-mm small-form-factor (LC, MU), and multifiber (MT-RJ) connectors and ferrules have a fixture-to-platten locking mechanism and a wide range of speeds. The APC-8000 delivers consistent end-face geometry, exceeding GR-326-CORE standards at high levels of polishing throughput. Connector fixtures are designed with three locator posts on the perimeter, which mate with appropriate slots within the safety cover assembly to lock firmly into place. During operation, this precise locking mechanism confines fixture motion to a vertical plane, eliminating unwanted fixture motion on a horizontal plane. The SpecVision ILS is designed with ultra-long working distance optics for various applications that require demanding visual inspection. Using interchangeable adapters, the handheld ILS can view connectors residing in bulkheads and polishing fixtures. The flexible interface platform permits the analysis of cable assemblies, optical bundles, multifiber components, and medical specimens. High-resolution magnified images can be displayed on a tabletop CRT, a handheld LCD, or a PC monitor. Software is also available for computer archiving. The ILS probe can be powered via AC or battery. KRELL TECHNOLOGIES, MORGANVILLE, NJ www.krelltech.com

PROBE SYSTEM

The S40 Pilot LX is designed for increased board handling for demanding applications. This extra-large flying probe system is suitable for testing any type of electrical board on any type of production run, from single-board to high-volume. The extended 24” × 24” board area is particularly suited to larger PCB demands, such as PC motherboards and multi-board panels. The S40 Pilot LX has a full suite of test capabilities, ranging from simple MDA testing of passive components to complete, powered-up, in-circuit, and functional analog tests, static and dynamic digital tests, and vectorless testing. ROTARY ENCODER

The new MR312 ZapFree incremental rotary encoder is the first commercially available, entirely passive encoder for rotation-sensing applications. There are no integral electronics within the encoder housing, and the all-optical design requires a single optical fiber connection. The MR312 offers immunity to lightning and atmospheric static that would “zap” conventional encoders; outdistances copper cable by allowing link lengths to 1000 m (3280 ft.); and its intrinsic EMI/RFI resistance allows for safe and reliable operation in and around medical equipment and other “noisy” industrial environments. CABLE-MARKING SYSTEM

By labeling electrical cables using a UV laser, this cable-marking system ensures indelible marking and is not aggressive with regard to the insulation (unlike hot stamping). The ULYS and MRO lines were developed to meet the new production requirements of major aeronautics companies. These UV laser cable-marking systems are now in widespread use in the civil and military programs, and ensure cable traceability in case of unexpected electrical problems. The LMW marking workstation is a low-cost configurable marking system available in four package sizes. The LMW also comes in two heights for different focal height optics (from 75 to 420 mm) and parts-handling options. The LMW system is available with an optional pneumatic shuttle parts handler to boost throughput by automatically sequencing parts through the system and positioning them for marking. TRAY CABLES

The Chainflex CF130US and CF140US continuous-flexing tray cables withstand tight-bending-radii stress to deliver longer extended life at a lower cost. The flame-retardant CF130US (unshielded) and CF140US (shielded with tinned copper) cables are constructed with TFFN/THHN insulation and a UV- and oil-resistant PVC jacket. These cables are approved for use in a multitude of common industrial installations and can perform multiple tasks, thereby reducing the number of cables needed for installation. The CoaxStrip 5300 is a programmable cable-stripping machine that can strip coaxial, triaxial, and multi-conductor cables, as well as single conductor wires up to 7 mm (0.275”) OD. Maximum stripping length has been increased from 25 mm (1.0”) to 30 mm (1.18”), it has an increased cable clamping force, and the cable clamping force is programmable instead of fixed.
