Experior expansion

Fiberoptic testing company Experior Photonics (Newbury Park, CA) announces an expansion of operations and a move into a bigger laboratory. In response to the increased demand for third-party independent test services for fiberoptics, a new 7000 sq-ft. facility occupies its current address. The new facility features clean, air-conditioned laboratories appropriate for fiberoptic performance measurements and adjacent environmental labs. www.experiorphotonics.com

DesignVision finalists

The DesignCon planning team has announced the finalists for the inaugural DesignVision Awards. Finalists in the Interconnect Technologies and Components category have been selected. They include: FCI’s AirMax VS connector system, Paricon Technologies’ GigaCon connector system, and Tyco Electronics’ MPI side interface. Entries will be judged on innovation, uniqueness, market impact, customer benefits, and value to industry. Winners will be announced at DesignCon 2005 (Santa Clara, CA) during a special media reception on February 1, 2005. www.designcon.com

Free monthly webinars

Speedline Technologies (Franklin, MA) will be presenting a monthly series of free technical Webcast seminars, beginning January 19, 2005. Industry experts will explore SMT manufacturing process challenges faced by process engineers. Each seminar will explore one of the challenges in a major manufacturing process, including lead-free wave and reflow, fine-pitch printing, and underfill dispensing. Cookson goes to Bangalore

Cookson Electronics Assembly Materials (Jersey City, NJ) has announced the opening of a research center at the Entrepreneurship Center in the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. Cookson operates four research and development centers in the U.S., the U.K., Japan, and now in India. The Research Center shares the latest in analytical equipment and laboratory facilities with the Institute, and employs a dedicated staff, including eight Ph.Ds. In the rapidly growing Asia/Pacific region, Cookson also operates product application support facilities in Taiwan and Shenzhen, China. www.alphametals.com

Interplex doubles in Mexico

Interplex Industries (Flushing, NY), global provider of precision metal stamping, plating, and plastic molded components and assemblies, has announced that it is doubling the size of its manufacturing facility in Guadalajara, Mexico. Interplex Mexico, located on the Parque Integral campus in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, provides precision metal stamping, insert molding, and assembly services with engineering and tooling support for customers throughout the Americas. Interplex Mexico was one of the first companies in the industry to achieve ISO/TS 16949 registration, the new international automotive quality control standard. Interplex currently provides its services to the communications, electronics, medical and automotive markets.
